There are survival aspects like starting to bleed you need to use a bandage. You might get radiated and need to use some alcohol or meds to reduce it. You will also have to search bodies for ammo / food and weapons. You are fighting a AI that cycles through the world and does it's own stuff including attacking each other. There are also some animals and mutated creatures that pose a threat and you'll have to search for artifacts to provide bonuses (anti radiation etc)
I would easily recommend them, I played Call of Pripyat and really enjoyed it and have been playing Clear Sky and found to be better in so many ways but that's not to take anything way from Call of Pripyat, as again, I really liked it. If you get any of the three in the series, I recommend you get the Complete mod for either of them.
They are awesome and easily worth the price. Make sure you use the "complete" mod that fixes a lot of bugs and updates the graphics and sounds, it does not effect gameplay.

clear sky and cop are decent, first one is the weakest i think, their not as godly as people on here make em out to be but still definatly worthy of being played,GamingVengeanceEhhh I think the first one is easily the best. Did you use complete?

Quick question to those who completed all three Stalker titles.
Is it worth playing Clear Sky? I am near the completion of Stalker SoC and am contemplating continuing with CoP instead.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are absolutely worth playing, and for there is plenty of reasons why. I'll name a few for you.
Those are just a few of the reasons that STALKER games are great. You don't have to play them in any particular sequence to enjoy them either. I didn't, I started with Call of Pripyat, and was completely captivated by all of the things that STALKER brought to the table. Again, all of this is subjective, but I think the general opinion of the community here is relative to my own.
STALKER encompasses a lot of things into one title. Atmosphere, it's quite scary and you can really imagine yourself in the position of the characters. It's extremely easy to get sucked into the STALKER world. The shooting mechanics are great, some might argue, but gaming is generally a purely subjective experience anyway. You can mod the game to be even more atmospheric than it already is, as well as provide an even greater quality of graphical detail. The open world environment is large, and unpredictable at times.
PLAY THE GAMES, you'll love the series and be just as disappointed as the rest of us that you wont be seeing another "true" sequel anytime soon, or ever for that matter.

When it was released it was buggy as hell, granted SOC was too. They focused too much on combat and faction wars rather than the lonely horror/survival aspect. They did introduce the concept of having to use a detector to get an artifact, which was cool. Overall I felt that I was being "Pushed" through Clear Sky, rather than having my own agenda. The complete mod fixed a lot of the bugs, and makes it more enjoyable. Its not so much bad, but its definitely the weakest in the series.Whats so bad about Clear Sky?

Cleark Sky was my least favorite but I still enjoyed it. I loved all three games and I would recommend playing all three.
Great game, very immersive.
I highly recommend playing the game with mods after your first playthrough. There is this mod call MISERY do try it when you finish it. I'm quite sad that we will never see STALKER 2
