I'm extremely disappointed. I can't seem to play the game at all, as severe lagging starts at the start of the game where you exit the dark room, and enter the outside for the first time.

I have a 3.2 mhz, 1.5 MBRAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS.

I've tried tampering with the settings and it doesn't make a difference, I still get severe lag.

I don't know where I am going wrong? Anyone have any advice on whether the game should run on these specs?

I heard their were some bugs and stuff in this game, it maybe from that, i'm not quite sure. I highly doubt it's your PC though...or it may also be that you could have the lighting effects to high. I don't own the game yet so i really am not the big of a help XD

It may have something to do with the fact that this is one of the first games to recommend a dual core processor.  I get no lag at all in the game at 1280x1024 max settings (including lights, shadows FSAA and AF).

Try turning down the anti-aliasing, the antiscopic flitering and the shadow detail.

the first time i fired the game up, it took about 5 minutes of jerking around before it started running smoothly - i assume it was writing somekind of cache onto my hard disk, but that's an uneducated guess at best

did you give it a couple minutes to warm up or did you just turn it off more or less straight away? let it sit for a while and it might just sort itself out

but turning down AA and AF and grass density and draw distance will help a massive amount - you can play with around 35% grass density and it doesn't really affect atmosphere at all - the grass doesn't even look good anyway

if they don't work, start waiting on that patch like half the rest of the people who bought stalker

I have a pentium D 3.2GHz, not quite a core2, but i experiece way too much lag for my liking. Usually i experiance the most lag right after a load. It does get batter as the system warms up. last night i did experience some unbelievable lag when some npc's and I were being attacked by maybe 6 dogs. it was disgusting. I assume the if the game recommends a dual core, than it actually uses both (unlike many games), so i doubt that the trouble is my processing power. i also have 1GB RAM (soon to be 2) and a geforce 7600 gt. I have a hard time believing that this problem is all in the hardware.

This game isn't that its laggy, but constantly pauses, there is no way to play this game smooth for me, and I have done every tweak, I have defraged, I even tried putting the game on a seperate partition.  And I know its not my hardware.

my game was completely unplayable when i left the first bunker, id say the framerate was around 5fps what i did to fix this was go into the games config file, an ltx file named user this is normally located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\STALKER-SHOC............then changed just changed a couple of options namely, the first line to _preset Low which defaults the game to low settings, and the line texture_lod which i have set to 2.......these settings completely fixed this stupidly low framerate i was getting but the great thing is im able to go under advanced settings ingame and put all the sliders to there highest amounts and still get great framerates, just one thing after changing the config file dont select the game detail level presets ingame or you will lose your settings leave it on low, there is no loss of quality doing this it looks the same but runs a great deal better

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, that fixed my lag!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would become super choppy whenever I would turn in any direction (same thing happened in BF2 for me), but doing that fixed it! :D:D:D:D:D

Thank you thank you thank youuuuu

I'm running it with Static Lighting and 2xAA, everything else on highest. Framerate is around 60, sometimes over 100 and never below 35. But turning Full Lighting on cripples the fps completely to 10-25 no matter what the other settings are.

After changing the settings that chrisoff_1 suggested, I can completely max out everthing else, including full lighting, full AA, etc, just leave textures halfway up and set the default settings to low, and I maintain around 50fps average on a 7800 gs agp.

If the game runs slow turn off the dynamic lighting.  Set it to static lighting and it will run great.  You lose that HDR effect of course but I would rather play the game in high detail and no lag with static lighting then lots of lag in low detail with dynamic lighting.  The game still looks GREAT with static lighting.

If you still have lag with static lighting then I don't know what the problem is but you can see my specs in my sig and this game run fantastic on my 6800GT with static lighting, in 1280x1024, with high detail but is not playable with either of the two dynamic lighting options, even in low detail.

Because this problem is coming up so often I'm really going to hit it home -

Unless you have like a 7950GT or better use static lighting!

Hi folks just bought the game and been having exactly the same lag problems!

I found this thread on google so I hope you can spare a minute to help a noob to this forum out.

Ok I have found the file that needs renaming but as I am a bit unsure, what exactly do I rename it, I mean I am dumb computer wise, so what EXACTLY is the code I need to rename the .ltx file ? As the advice given is a bit unclear to me. ( I'm a bit unsure about changing file names etc)

Just imagine you are explaining to an idiot and maybe I might do it right first time!

thanks in advance folks :)

I have the very same problems. Go and post in this thread, but just be careful for rabid fanboys. I was told I was a noob and a spammer. But at least go and make your problems known there for their benefit just to see that its not a limited problem.

You could definately use extra ram for it, that alone could be the problem. Anyway, the basic update game and drivers, close all apps on background and put every graphics setting on minimum and see if it still crashes would be my first step.

Man, I'm having the worst time running this game.

Windows Vista, AMD Athlon X2 5000+, 2 GB RAM, 2600XT. Running @ 1024x768, minimum graphics, static lighting.

I get 140FPS..... then the game stuuters and freezes every 15 seconds. It's really pulled me out of the game. But I guess I can't blame anyone but myself, seeing as I downloaded a custom edition with about 15 graphics & texture mods.....

Trainers can make a game unstable so try to play the game without them and see if the problems still persist.

Hi yall, I have a p4c800 mob with 400fsb, a generic 3.2gig processor, 2 gig ddr2 ram 3200, nvidia gforce6800gs/256meg. I ran the game at 800/600 because I don't care if the game doesn't look like a high def photo. All other options were default. Didn't have any problems with the game.

A strange thing though, in my bios the option for hyper threading is enabled. Therefore, in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device manager the processor is listed twice! Isn't hyper threading the precurser to dual core? All I know is I've been able to play any of the latest games going back a couple of years up to the present :D

I have a quad-core @6600 with 2GB of RAM and an ATI 3870 by HIS IceQ Turbo 3. At all maxed out and by 1680x1050 I get very little lag. Though I just entered the wilderness area and get serious stutters. like it just stops. It freezes and starts back up again with my enemy moved 50ft and me at the same spot. Needless to say, this is a serious issue!

Anybody else having the same problem?
