I started playing Shadow of Chernobyl with Complete 2009 mod recently. I'm about 3-4 hours in, just did the Agroprom sewers and heading to the barkeep.

I read somewhere that there are multiple endings and most are false endings. Now, I'm doing a very thorough playthrough so I doubt I'll be doing a second playthrough. So can u guys help me so that I get a proper ending and not a false one. Just general do's and dont's really, nothing too specific.

And for the love of god, NO SPOILERS!

This is easily the in the top 3 FPSes I've played along side the Half-Life games(both) and Crysis. Atmosphere and scare-wise, it tops everthing. That agropom sewer was my first venture underground in the game and i was genuinely scared.

Also, can anyone tell me where can I find a scope for my fast-shooting AK?

One last thing, I had a lot of problems playing games like ME3 after playing Deus Ex Human Revolution because everything else felt so restricting. I have a similar feeling that I won't be able to go back to those linear, on-rails shooters after SoC. What about the rest of you guys??

OK, I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible. When the time comes you will be able to move to Pripyat, but you will also get a mission to go back to talk to some guy. DO THAT. He should explain everything you have to do to get the proper ending. That's how I remember it, it's been a while. Yeah, the description is vague, but no spoilers.

hmm, a bit hard to explain without spoilers, so here goes, to get the true endings, avoid doing any quests relating to a certain phenomenon known as the wish granter.

If you finish the wish granter side quest, then you WILL get the false endings. And yes, after playing stalker, I couldn't go back to heavily scripted shooters.

I don't remember exactly when (I think before you enter the Red Forest or after you're done in the Red Forest), you will get an update giving you the optional mission of talking to a Stalker named Guide. Just follow this questline, and you should be fine. Near the very end of the game, you should have 2 objectives to choose between. One involves visiting a certain something, which you should not do, as that will lead you to the 'fake' endings no matter what. The objective you should follow includes the word 'secret', so just keep that in mind. Also, keep many separate save files (preferably one everytime you enter a new area) in case you still end up forgetting about something. On my first playthrough, I had to replay the last 4 hours of the game because I didn't save enough and got one of the fake endings.

There, that's about as specific as I can get without giving spoilers.

And you're right about the last part. Shadow of Chernobyl hugely changed the way I perceived games, and first person shooters in particular.

As I understand it, Wish granter is something inside ChNPP, right? Some guy in garbage was taking about it when I asked him to tell me something interesting. So I suppose that should come quite near to the end of the game.

So will it be possible to maintain a checkpoint save at that point, and then play out in different ways to get different endings, without having to replay the entire game? I mean, will early game decisions like which side quests to do, which factions to help etc won't affect the outcome?

Or is it impossible to know that without some spoilers?

And, any help with finding that scope of fast-shooting AK, guys?

Yeah, once inside the CHNPP, you really have to go out of your way to get the false endings. Best thing to do is make a normal save first, then continue on your way.

Without spoiling too much, the game will ask you if you want to pursue on with the main quest or find the phenomenon known as the wish granter. Just make sure you do the main quests, and avoid anything having to do with finding the wish granter. The rest is up to you. as for the scope : try this

So basically, I should just carry on as I like until I get to pripyat, only then worry about the endings.

Will it be worth playing the last few hours again to get the other endings? And what the hell is a fake ending anyways? I've never heard about any game having a fake ending before.

Anyways, thanks guys. This helped.

Yeah, just carry on as normal, explore, stalk, and enjoy. When you get to pripyat, just make sure you follow the main quest. There's no such thing as a fake ending, not sure why anyone would call it that. The game has multiple endings, all depending on your choice (when you get to the final part, you will understand). Multiple endings but only one is considered the real ending that carries over to the sequels (or prequel).

Good hunting stalker.....

There were a small handful of missions and people that you had to meet in order to be able to get the "good" endings, but a bit hard to say what they are without spoilers. If you are steady and thorough you should find them all without too much trouble - I did without realising there were going to be multiple endings.

Doing those tasks only opens up the possibility of getting the good endings - you can reload your save file and experience atleast some of the other worse endings.

Use multiple save files - that should be general good advice for any game, but particularly in the late stages of the game as once you head to the NPP there is no going back.

You need a door decoder. :) Just follow the Find Strelok quest line, and you'll find it. To point you in the right direction, you can find his stash in the Agroprom Underground.

Also, there's an important NPC needed to get the true ending that can die, so if he dies, you can return to Sidorovich, and he'll sell you the information instead. ;)

I learned that the hard way. Only had 1 magazine of ammo and 1 medkit once I got there not realizing that I couldn't go back. :P

Ouch.....that's not a very good situation to be in. Must have taken a good number of quick saves/loads to knife a few guys and collect ammo, especially if you were playing at harder difficulties.
