If you like very linear FPS games, and fancy graphics and a half way decent story line - then go with Bioshock.
If you like online multi-player shooters and you cannot get enough of them, then pick up Quake Wars.
If you want a game that is kind of a mix of DeusEx gameplay, FPS, and an Oblivion type attempt (open/non-linear gameplay) - go with STALKER.
Personally, I own both Bioshck and STALKER and I much prefer to play STALKER. Bioshock wasn't terribly fun after a while. The AI is too obvious. They make a lot of noise so you constantly know where they are and I personally was disappointed with the story once I got a ways into the game.
STALKER doesn't support shine graphics like Bioshock does, but I find that the graphics and wonderful lighting (if your PC can handle the HDR lighting the game supports) are what makes the game's atmosphere work out very well. Be sure to install the latest patches before you play. I know that the AI for STALKER is a little on the buggy side from time to time, but nothing to worry about.
I suppose you could think of STALKER trying to make the game seem more like real life and Bioshock is more towards making the game seem shiny and....for lack of a better word, fake.
That's my take on the two games.
As for Quake Wars, I wasn't impressed with the demo or the gameplay. It's something that I didn't like and I won't get.
I've only played BioShock and I can tell you that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is the best choice you can make.foxhound_fox
Out of STALKER and Bioshock, I say STALKER. STALKER has better gameplay mechanics than Bioshock, and then when you factor in an atmosphere that, imo, is even creepier than Bioshocks and open-ended gameplay, its a no brainer.
Then the real question is: do I want decent online action with poor singleplayer (Quake Wars), or do I want great singleplayer with poor online play (STALKER)?
Imo STALKER is a must have for any FPS gamer, whereas Quake Wars is meh, especially if you have any of the BF games.
Another vote for STALKER, but that probably won't stop you from going out and getting QW or Bioshock instead since they look so much cooler in the gameplay videos.
I voted Bioshock. I think the story is awesome... With STALKER you get an incredible good fps, but sometimes I feel it's more of the same. Bioshock is shorter, right, but you'll have a good time.STALKERhasthebestIAIhavetested...
ET:QW... well, better get BF 2142...or BF2
I'm going with the majority on this one and saying STALKER, the game is just great. Make sure you patch it before playing though. Bioshock is a good game but after playing it through once I haven't had the motivation to play it again. Quake Wars just got old too fast.
Quake Wars is a online game, I'm not into those... I have only heard bad things about it though.
Bioshock is great, good story and graphics and taking on Big Daddies is fun. Great game with some great concepts, a must play for fans of System Shock. I am curious though, does the other System Shock fans here also think that Bioshock was a bit console-like for a PC game? SS was much more involved, inventory management and those chemicals you could combine...
Anyway, my vote is for Stalker, awesome game with great replay value and lots of bugs:)
which 1 should i get???Link_dude23
I've played all 3, Bioshock is a mixture of both Linear and Non-Linear (true fact) with a fantastic story and a heavy "oh snap!" later in the game. But you may grow tired of it after your first run.
Quake Wars is actually like Battlefield 2 only with better hitboxes...better? ALOT better hitboxes with sweet graphics :D
But the game i really recommend is S.t.a.l.k.e.r. It's a fantastic game with fantastic gameplay, hotboxes, graphics quests and alot more that i might explain wrong. S.t.a.l.k.e.r. is the game i Recommend the most, with a capital R
heck i like stalker. it was one of those games i never even looked up on and just thought i play it.
but i am shooter fan so all those games to me would be good
STALKER for single player. Ran great on my machine and I didn't have any issues with bugs, very fun game :D
One thing I respect from the guys at GSC Gameworld and THQ is that once you install STALKER from the DVD, you no longer need the disc to play the game (at least the US version). It's nice to see that much confidence in their product and freedom given to the gaming community! :)
BioShock on the other hand is riddled with DRM. Yes, you can get the Steam version of Bioshock and you don't need a disc in the drive to play the game, however, it doesn't matter if it's Steam or retail you will still get the latest version of SecuRom installed on your machine and will need to manage the limited allowed installs/activations.
Quake Wars is your choice if you're looking for competitive multiplayer.
which 1 should i get???Link_dude23Never played Quake Wars, so can't comment on that Stalker has a more open game, a bit RPG'ish I'd say. You walk where you want to walk, attack from where you want to attack and when you want to attack. The graphics are great and the story is nice. It has a nice atmosphere and has different kinds of enemies. Bioshock is a one-way-road, once you've been in an area, chances of seeing that area again are low (unless you manually go back, but there's no reason to... at least not to the point I played). The enemies are BAD, zombies, zombies... and look, more zombies... And on top of it all you have boring weapons Stalker wins easily
I bought Bioshock and Quake Wars, but have yet to get Stalker. From all of the comments Stalker is definitely one I need to keep my eyes out for.
I got kind of bored with Bioshock for some reason great graphics but the gameplay seemed a little lacking. I played Quake Wars in the Beta and I still bought it, It may not be the best game but for online action it works for me.
I say stalker, but a lot of people would say bioshock. So buy both ;). If you can only buy one, then buy stalker, IMO. And as for quake wars... get BF2 instead. It is cheaper, and QW is very simmilar. The only reason I brought it was 'cause I was tired of BF2's setting.linkthewindow
agreed, but BF2 still owns
If you like the three genres, go with the higher score... BTW in my opinio go with Bioshock, Stalker is too hard in the begining and a little easy at the end... I don't like theese games that have anumbalanced dificulty...
And then you mention Bioshock as a good game when you complain about the difficulty in Stalker? Bioshock is very easy in the beginning (I never got to the end). An FPS game where a wrench is the best weapon, is not something to brag about...If you like the three genres, go with the higher score... hehe yeah, i just saved my ammo for the big daddies in bioshock and used the freeze thing on the retards and just hit em with the wrench.
STALKER all the way. Only gripe is that the ending sucks donkey balls. BioShock...sucked donkey balls from the get-go.
Whoever said that BS was like SS...you sir, should be shot and quartered.
Just noticed something...the hype for Bioshock was BS...hahahaha.

If I didn't know who Ken Levine was, I would have figured out that SS and BS was somehow related. Bioshock have to many things in common with System Shock to be a coincetance, using audio tapes and "ghosts" to tell the story and SS's Psi powers compared to BS's plasmids...
Basicly, Bioshock is System Shock after a long night out doing some heavy drinking.... slow! SS was for PC gamers where BS was made for Xbox360 gamers... and that's BS!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R on the other hand is a traditional PC game and does not insult our intelligence by making the game so easy to play that a monkey could manage.
