You may want to consider the opinions on STALKER presented in this thread.Jack_Summersby
What is your problem, man? Boycotting a game? It's one thing to dislike a game, but what you are doing, is IMHO, taking it a bit too far. You boycott important things... if the game doesn't get patched, you complain about it and constantly, neverendlessly nag the devs ( :P )... not try to permanently destroy a games reputation single handedly.
Don't take offense to my statement, it's just my own personal opinion ;)

My problem? I spent hard-earned cash on being a beta tester for GSC and THQ.
Also, please note this deeply subtle point: I am potentially boycotting the game IF and ONLY IF Clear Sky comes out before a comprehensive Shadows patch. IF THE PATCH COMES OUT FIRST, THERE WILL BE NO BOYCOTT!!!
Arrgh, I've explained that 50 times and people still get confused.
STALKER has a lot to offer, and I would highly recommend it. It's a lot more open-ended than Rainbow Six: Vegas. As for the bugs that people talk about, few of them are really show-stopping. The patches fix them up, and there is a rather large content update on the way. There are some complaints about weapons accuract in STALKER, but I wouldn't listen to them... The weapons are only as good as the player wielding them. STALKER is a great game, and it shouldn't be missed out on!
In the end, it's your call. STALKER is a great game, and Rainbow Six: Vegas is also a great game. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. Do you want a tactical FPS, or do you want a FPS/RPG blend?

Yeah, I'm not the kind of guy who would read through a whole thread first :P
To me, it's not a matter of there being a boycott or not; it's the fact that people are actually thinking about boycotting a video game? It's an absurd idea imo, no matter what the circumstances are.
Ill bet yas he enjoys STALKER more,..Please leave a post when you have played both, and let us know which you like better.Mlazarowill do, only problem is i ordered both from go gamer. i rushed through it and forgot to set my shipping plan, so its like called dirt cheap or something lol. it says up to a week lol, about the boycott, if you dont like the game. than whatever thats your own sh*t why would u not want the company to do good just because u had some issues????? PS. forums boycotting might effect 50 people. i think THQ will survive :)

So if there was a video game about molesting little girls and playing as Richard Speck you wouldn't support a boycott of the game? Small minds FTL.

I would argue that STALKER is EXTREMELY tactical while R6 is very strategic. Though I haven't played R6:LV but I imagine it's similar to other R6 games.
There are many times in STALKER that I find myself just observing to come up with a plan; only to have it fall apart completely in the process and have to adlib a survival tactic. It's very intense...
You may want to consider the opinions on STALKER presented in this thread.Jack_Summersby
1st: your opinion and thread iscompletely biased
2nd: no one cares if you boycott stalker
3rd: you are VERY ignorant of the matters at hand; THQ is responsible for delaying the patch NOT GSC, so your pathetic boycott isnt even targeting the right people
EDIT: BTW THQ isnt even publishing clear sky
If you're looking for an active community, you'll probably want to go with Rainbow Six: Vegas; it is one of the top played games according to xfire.DGFreak
can you link me to this? i heard vegas never had more than a few hundred online when it came out over a yeat ago, then for months it never had anyone online because it was so buggy, and then after that new patch and map pack it has maybe 50 online. i borrowed it and loved single player, but never played it online. id love to buy it and play online if it has a big community. can you show me this or any proof of a big and not buggy online community?
I would pick both. They both offer something the other doesn't have but I prefer STALKER because of the semi-open ended gameplay.

You must be new to gaming on PCs. Let me first welcome you and tell you something about PC games. First of all, you'll find that PC games are vastly superior to console games and they can be alot more fun, even despite the problems that some PC games might have. Sadly PC game development is a risky and much harder business compared to console game development, because of all kinds of different hardware out there. It's a struggle for PC game developers to create a game before they run out of funds and are forced to ditch the whole project. This is especially true for PC game developers that are still new to the scene and have little or no influence. All developers want to create games that are fun and perfect but this is often not possible because of various reasons. For example, they run out of money so they are forced to release whatever game they were working on. Even if the game is still "not perfect". This is usually the result of the investors who are breathing down the game developer's neck. Yes, investors can be greedy bastards but you got to see it also from their point of view. They are giving loads of money to somebody, expecting to get it back later but nothing is happening and the money they gave away seems to be gone.
So you'll find that MANY games on the PC might have some errors, also called bugs, left in the game when they are released. Usually those bugs are errors that were not foreseen beforehand but it does happen sometimes that those bugs were already known before the release of the game. But the game got released anyway else the investor would've stopped funding the game and then the game would've never been released at all and the game developers would've had to quit their jobs. Another reason is that there's so much different hardware for the PC, that it's virtually impossible to make the games bug free for all of them. Especially when using new and experimental technologies/techniques. Anyway, some of those bugs get fixed with patches but some of them don't, because sometimes the developers just don't have the resources to fix the problems. Despite the bugs a game might have, the games are playable most of the time and a lot of people enjoy those games.
If you happen to buy a game that might be unplayable on your PC, you got the right to be pissed of but there really isn't much you can do except returning the game to the store you bought it from. That's really the worst you can do to somebody who tries to sell a product, don't buy it. Or you can report the bugs to the game developers and hope that they will fix them. That's the best you can do. Don't try anything else like, lets say boycotting, because people really do not care about you, so your efforts will go unnoticed. I know it sounds harsh, but it's true. You'll just end up wasting a lot of time that you could've used for something more usefull or fun. You keep saying how you lost your "hard earned cash" like you're some kind of responsible adult, yet you are wasting your time so immaturely like you're some kind of kid, are you? This isn't the first game with bugs and definately not the last so why don't you boycot all the other games? I think I know the answer: Because this is currently the only game that doesn't work for YOU? All the other people that have the same problems are irrelevent, it's really just all about you, isn't it? Would you've done all this "boycotting" if you did NOT have the problems that you currently have? I don't think so. And for your information, there is a game where you can molest little girls. It's called Postal 2.
Anyway, just know that the money you spend, you think went wasted on the game, will allow the game developers to continue doing what they like doing best, creating games. So if enough people buy their games it will allow them to create new, better and more fun games and maybe even improve their existing ones. If it makes you feel any better, the 50 bucks you payed for the game has helped a lot more people and you'll see results in your favour much quicker then when you would've sent 50 bucks to a random African country. You just have to decide who you want to support and who not. You do not like the company that developed STALKER? Then don't buy their games, it's as simple as that.
And let me tell you why I do not believe in conspiracy theories and why I do not bother with them. It's really simple. Because we do not know all the facts, there are infinite posibilities for why things have happend, the way they did. And you will never know the answer.
I hope this post won't go unnoticed to you and thatyou'll finally see what a lot of other people tried to explain to you, else I've just wasted an hour typing this up. Well, I guess it can also be usefull to the other people. So I've done my good deed for today. Now, if only you would've done the same instead of working on your boycot and your conspiracy theory about the STALKER patches, you could've made a lot of people happy.
STALKER: FPS with RPG elements and good story. It takes place in Ukraine... need I say more?
RainbowSix Vegas: **** story! Hardcore tacticalshooter ftw!
Both very good games imo make your choice :D
I don't play much online. But i much prefered Vegas to STALKER.
Vegas is better if you just like run and gun.
STALKER you have to be more "tactical" and take your time over things.

Ironic, isn't it?

I definetly do not agree with that. STALKER had good rpg elements... but RSV is by farbetter fit for theshooter genrein my personal opinion. STALKER shooting fights were intensive also in its own way but its less realistic and it required more then10 bullets to killyour enemy :P
someone answer me, how big is the vegas online community now?ncderek
I think STALKER online community is bigger in comparison I think and it has good mod support by the community.

PullTheTricker
That's where the mods come in. Just get a mod that adds weapon sway, decreases bullet speed to more realistic levels, increases damage and accuracy of weapons and you got yourself a semi realistic shooter.
