When it comes to games(or movies) being scary, I am a big baby. To give you an idea, some of the jump out parts in HL2 really got me. I've seen some of the enemies from stalker, and they are pretty brutal looking(monsters). So my question is, does STALKER have a lot of surprise jump out scary parts, or is it just the creepy atmosphere that is good? I can usually take the creepy stuff and ugly monsters, but the jump out stuff is wht gets me. STALKER is $20 on steam and I just cant click the purchase button yet.fatzebra
The creepyness comes in when you enter the laboratories and the brain scorchers, the enviornment and story kept me going to play this game, the monsters do scare you especially when that dog-like giant monster screams through the small corridor sewers. Do yourself a favor and click purchase button, the game is worth every penny though i wish i couldave gotten it for 20 but instead I bought it for full retail price on release date.
There is a lot more "creepiness" than "jump-scares" but a lot of the time the Bloodsuckers do a good job with jump scares because they can come out of nowhere. It is a game worth experiencing whether or not you can "take" the scares.foxhound_fox
I have to agree with what he said ,and for twenty dollars you get a hell of a great game
The game isn't THAT hard. It's semi-realistic. Don't play it like Quake, thinking that you can run in the open, dodging all the bullets. You must move from cover to cover. If you do that, it's not hard.BlackAlpha666
"I'v always loved exploring creepy places like Chernobyl, anyway I recommand you trust this game...It would be a good experience..."
I second both these opinions. It's one of the best games I've ever played. If I were you, I wouldn't even think twice.
For the record, it was jumpy & atmpospheric scary for me. Playing at night with surround is ideal.
Thanks for the input guys, I'm still thinking on itfatzebra
you really shouldn't worry about the 'scary' parts, it's not that bad - the underground bits don't go on for that long - the things i hated the most were the mutants that leap at you (can't remember their name) - but you can avoid them a lot of the time and even the game's rubbish shotguns deal with them without too much difficulty
the game's overall atmosphere is amazing though and not to be missed
I would recommend against it. I bought it, and wish I didn't. At least try a demo first if you can.GPAddict
I just started playing last night for the first time. I was very impressed. I heard alot about it but never tried it until now. I'm glad I did. It's one of those games you wished you would have tried a long time ago. It's one of the most atmospheric games I've played so far. I'm really enjoying it so far.
Get STALKER. Its a great shooter and scary at times, but not frequently. Its more eery to be honest...you hear mutant dogs barking and it will put you on edge, but you wont be like "AHHHH oh my god!"
For comparison:
STALKER is not jump-out-of-your-seat scary like Doom 3 is.
STALKER is not as gory-scary as FEAR is.
STALKER isnt even as scary as Bioshock imo.
Like I said, its quite eery and there are plenty of monsters sneaking about, but in the end theyre no more scarier than say one of those boars or wolves charging you in Oblivion. The occasional mutant humanoid (the ones with the tentacles on their face especially) might give you a scare but thats about it.
Bioshock is not scary at all. You're too beefed up and the enemies are pretty generic, except Big Daddies, which are fun to fight, but are hardly any scary. On STALKER you'll have to be very careful when going around: radiation, anomalies, mutants...even the soldiers and enemy stalkers can put you in a pinch, with their unholy accuracy and a usually competent AI.ReptorMAX
Stalker is the scariest game I've played. One time I was wandering around and found this random building that appeared to be empty. I was exploring for loot but found a room with 2 dead guys and 1 guy bleeding to death. Then out of nowhere I heard a loud "roar". Those damn blood suckers scare the crap out of me.
It uses such moments moderately, but even something like getting chased by a pack of dogs will make you brown your pants. It isn't blunt like Doom 3 or gory Quake 4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. favours a more psychological type horror like F.E.A.R. but more immaginative. The best part is only a few of those moments are actually intended.
