Hey I bought Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl recently and it wouldnt allow me to start a new game as it would always freeze when loading "Prefetching objects..."

I then bought Stalker Clear Sky as I wanted to at least try one Stalker game.

But Stalker Clear sky does the exact same thing and freezes at "Prefetching objects..." when starting a new game.

Has anyone had this problem before? Any idea's for a solution?

Thanks so much!

Sounds like the ol' overheating problem that occurs in some games... Happened to me while playing Mass Effect :/ You should search for some drivers for your BIOS

Even though all other games work fine on my computer?

Also would you be able to link me to some drivers as I'm not all that tech knowledgable.

Thanks!

Drivers are card specific. Is your card ATI or Nvidia? If you don't know because it's integrated, then your video card isn't powerful enough for the game. To get drivers go to either Nvidia's or ATI's website and search for your video card, and download the one that matches your OS.

You don't need to be tech knowledgeable to download drivers, it's the same as downloading flash, or anything else really.

If you looked at the specs I posted then you would realize that my card is more then sufficient and that is it made by Nvidia. I also mentioned that my display drivers are up to date. So it's not video card drivers that are the problem. Nor is it lack of requirements. Thanks though.

I would still recommend updating the game, I think your prob has to do with yout i7 processor, it may cause a hickkup in that game somehow, and it is likely they have fixed it.

Apart from that I cant really say, it is not overheating, when it crashes before an ingame screen even appears... its in the loadup, I would ask if they were Legal, but I assume they are, and thus there are very little to do or say,

Oh... and du install or update the DX9 drivers that are on the SoC disk, that might fix it, come to think about it.

Thanks for your help. I'll try the suggested advice and then post what happens

EDIT: Yeah it wasn't updated all to patch 1.5.09 so I then updated it. But that didn't do anything. It still freezes at "Prefetching objects..." and it's wierd because everytime it freezes then I need to actually push and hold the power button to turn off my computer as I can't do anything.

I don't think it has to do with patches for the games since it's happening to both games, and also because I played through the entire first STALKER without any patches, just the out of box game itself.

was worth a shot, since the part where the games seems to freeze up on him is when the game loads the worldmaps but before they are given any graphics.

So it had to be a decoding problem somewhere, and I kinda hoped a patch might fix it up, might be a RAM problem, but if theyre the only games it seems unlikely.

kinda stumps me,

Yeah I'm not sure what to do either :(

Hey does anyone know if changing lines of code would help? Like in the game files or something?

And if so then how would I go about doing this?

Thanks

find out who produce your MB, (you likely have a booklet about the mb) MSI ASUS, or a company as that, most of them have an update program in thier websites, you basicly find the "support" area and look around a bit, its not that hard to find, just run the program and follow the instructions.

I doubt itll work, but you might get lucky, and it is overall good for your pc to update the bios from time to time ;)
