its worth 20 bucks. i got the retail disc the first day in my city. you might want to patch to 10004. it was a nice patch and i think it has the most mod options. i think mp had many problems and few servers. if not worried about mp. patch 10004 is maybe best..

stalker is the most buggy game ive ever owned or played.. but its 1 of my favorite games too. im playing priboi story mod now for the second time. well ive finished it but its free play. so im still playing for the heck of it. then will play again. im waiting for the lost alpha mod.
you will learn a whole new game skill playing stalker soc.. how to baby or nurse a game to keep it from ctd or hard lock your system. when the game seems to stop like its loading a map area. dont move your mouse or any keys just sit. sometimes 2 minutes or so it will start working again..
save often save from esc. main menu gui.some missions bug. you have to do them a few times before they work right. i never liked quick save. none of the save worked right when i got it just out. lotsof buggy junk. i waited until patch 10003 to play it. played it some 42x now with different patches and mods and vanilla game and all skill levels.. my play through on youtube is vanilla 10005 master skill. gsc never did really polish off the game. they did not add free play or give sdk's either.. i read clear sky was even more buggy and more hard on a system than crysis.. i might get cs someday when its 10 bucks or so.. most people i know that have stalker never finished it 1x. they deleted it after the first few levels. mostly because it did not work right. and pissed them off..
** to the other poster [ offset]. saves did not work right unto patch 10001 and after. i use esc and right now have about 340 saves.. older systems or vid cards can be problems. and you need 2 or more gigs of memory. up date drivers. lots of game problems are because of sound drivers.. and too. older drivers might be better than more new ones. some times you have to play with install delete and reinstall drivers until you find what is best. it is no exact science.. you might have to do the -nointro -noprefetch switches. defrag and turn off everything not needed. turn off anti virus anti spy ware and chat etc.anything and everything other than your firewall..
some of my favorite mods. and oh ya mods need fixes too. are. faiakes mod 2.2- basix gfx mv 2.0 [had to wait for some fixes]- and priboi story 1.1. i like priboi2 fix better than 3 fix. but petrenko was not immortal in my 2 fix game. sad.. proper free play and ol mods never worked right for me..
