So I'm in the mood for something different. U know, just waiting for gw2 and I've played the hell out of skyrim and don't feel like playing D3. Stalker has had my attention for some time and I'm contemplating getting it with all the xpacs and jumping in.

I've heard that I can enhance the experience with a lot of mods. My question is what mods are absolutely necessary to get the best experience?

Another question. I'm looking at steam and it has the bundle CoP+SoC for 23 euros. Are there any better deals around? Or should I just suck it up and get D3?

cop and soc are a heck of a set. i recommend only 1 mod on the playthrough and thats the complete mod for each of those games. complete 2009 and complete 2011 are jsut that good. they fix game bugs. they mildly enhance visuals. they make the game just in general alot easier to play. there two great fps adventure games and have some pretty decent short-term replayability

Dude pick that up. I'd grab that steam deal if I didn't already have both of them. They're incredible. And yes, get Stalker Complete and Call of Pripyat Complete. Those mods are essential, and don't drastically change any of the original game content (or intent). They just enhance the graphics, fix bugs, iron out some annoying UI issues from the vanilla versions, and improve some odd AI behavior. I played Shadow of chernobyl for quite a while with no changes, and I really liked it, but there was a lot of little issues that kept it from really keeping my attention. Got the Complete 2009 mod, and it really sucked me in. When I got Call of Pripyat, I didn't even bother playing it before getting the complete mod.

Same here, this man speaks truth.

Great games. But theyre slow to start and the Complete mods make them more polished.

Just one bit of advice, when you first start Stalker do not run out of the camp and attack the army patrol. Wait until you've got some better gear.:P

Unless you just have to play it right now, I'd wait. I've seen it on sale frequently and I'm sure it'll be for sale on one of the big sales this summer.
