After a ridiculous amount of time in development, STALKER is mearly 2 days away. This game was praised for it's graphics a few years back, but has it kept up with the progresion of games today? In other words, do you think the game looks awesome or not? :)
As far as poly count, texture detail, and dynamic lighting, it looks only average, but the detail and scope of the world more than makes up for it, IMO. From what I've seen, I'd say the graphics are excellent overall.
Not that I really care that much. My poor 'puter is too slow to take advantage of all the bells and whistles, and even if it could, I'm more interested in gameplay than glitter.
Havent tried the game, but from reading on the net, the game sounds like it has hl2 graphics, which is fine by me, im more gameplay person but the question is why under the gamespot tech specs for this game does it say what the game requires such huge requirements to play? When the graphics is far from state of the art? i mean if thats true then what the hell have the devolopers been doing all this time, from all that time the game should almost be the best optimized game ever.

Well , the world said Oblivion's Graphics is more advanced than HL2 Graphics (HDR , SM3 , Soft shadows , foliage ..etc ) but when it comes to which is more beautiful .. it's just a matter of taste .
Good god people, reviews say the graphics are at least as good as hl2. That's good enough for me. Hell, Deus Ex's graphics aren't anything in todays world, but I still like playing it. Graphics are good enough to make me happy plus they say the atmosphere the game produces is very compelling. I'm getting the game, thats for sure. Plus I agree whole heartily with Artosa.
I really don't care much about graphics, but about gameplay. Oblivion has great graphics, but the gameplay really whomps. Once these developers start making games more about gameplay and minus the superawesomesaurcehighrezgraphix, then will I consider buying their games. Until then, thank jeebus for reviews.

As a FPS fan I'm truly dissapointed. As for RPG players I assume they'll like it. I personally think its a very very poor game Â

Have you played Deus Ex or Fallout? Because thats what this game feels like to me, a cross between those 2 games. Which is absolutely heaven for an old-school gamer like me.

i dont care about the graphics, its just that when the veiw distance in oblivion was turned down it crippled the gameplay and i dont want that to happen with stalker. so whats the deal with the veiw distance on it?

good god, someone that didn't enjoy deus ex? i've never seen one before. :) i'm really pondering buying the game when it pops up at fry's.. so it's not already there, though? sigh.
I seriously dont understand why people complain about the graphics in STALKER. Yeah the game was in development for quite a while and it become slightly dated visually, that doesent make it any less of a great gaming experience. For all these noobs judging the game based on just what they see and not playing need to leave the forum. There are tons of 360 games with next gen high def graphics, guess what? the gameplay is horrible and most of em cost 60 bucks. Wow lets see what we have with STALKER... we have a great game with good replay value that isnt an average FPS, with great graphics and only costs 40 bucks. please stop whining about visuals and learn how to judge games, kthxbye
the game looks very good the only problem is if your system cant handle running the hdr lights and you have to go with static lighting then you get dropped out of dx 9 and put to dx 8 but even in dx 8 it still looks dam good and having 2 gigs of ram helps alot as well
Like everyone has said, the game's like HL2 graphics except with worse character models but better lighting. The Draw distance is large, but its not "infinate" like Oblivion's is (which isnt bad, as long as I can still snipe someone from across a very large field). The main reason why this game got a decent graphics score is that its Atmosphere is top-notch. Take System Shock 2 for example, its an old 90's game that might not have the best visuals in teh world, but the level design, lighting, and atmosphere make it appear to have amazing visuals. Which is what I hear about STALKER's graphics as well.
it's a sort of heavily story-driven open-ended RPG that plays like a FPS. you, as a player, have a ton of freedom to decide how you want to play the game.. guns blazing with big weapons, sneaking around back doors with silenced knockout dart crossbows, etc. and an addendum on stalker.. maybe the problem many people have isn't really the graphics alone, but how the game runs with said graphics. it's supposed to be pretty hard on the system, isn't it?

Deus Ex is my favourite game and I've been playing games since I was 8...please...please go buy Deus Ex! Try Direct2drive.com...it's around 10 dollars. And no, it's not scary...however it has one of the best storylines. To me it was like a book I couldn't put down...
