Never played an MMO but free, decent DX11 graphics and Star Trek were enough to make me try one finally. All I can say is WOW, I'm hooked!! This game is fantastic.

There is more game content in this than I ever imagined. I have no idea how they can make money seeing as though the default free content is so feature rich and varied.

Things start a little slow with many nicely done tutorial missions but soon you get some battles that challenge which forces you to start thinking and configuring your crew and items MUCH more carefully.

Tons of places to visit and the galaxy map is like a mini game in itself, lol.

Highly suggest you all try it, its FREE!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that it's free now, and I'm definitely going to give it a try, but I'm waiting on a new motherboard at the moment =\

I'm liking this F2P trend, it gives me access to a lot of games that I would never have considered playing. The downside is of course, it also increases my backlog of unplayed games by several magnitudes, considering they are MMOs. Let me check my steam profile...yep, about 100+ games...holy sheeeiit...

Time isn't free and this one isn't worth the time investment. Most free games just complicate your "time investment", not because there's more games to play, but you're basically wasting time on worthless games, like this one.

But im pleased you found a mmo you like :) http://www.startrekonline.com/f2p_features Veteran Rewards gold : Not Available Priority Login Not Available In-Game Chat Limited, In-Game Mail Limited, Forums Limited, Customer Service Limited, In-Game Vivox Voice Chat Ad-supported

What the 'free' accounts have access to is pretty much the same thing as what a 'paid' account had access to a month ago. You aren't missing or being restricted from any content. Seriously, the C-Store stuff always existed as extra paid +style ships, even when it was a sub game. The In-game Chat 'Limited' stuff is it limits your access to those things for the first couple hours you play - pretty obviously to try to keep out spammers and the like.

Apparently the ground combat is ho-hum, but it does look fairly inventive.

I am trying it today so what a coincidence.
I'm kinda lost in the game though. The HUD and feedback is not very intuitive and pretty broad.
It'll take me a moment to get past the information overload.
The server is down now and I'm in Europe so, guess I probably won't see any of you there.

Also I had to choose 1 of 3 things, engineering science and tactics, and I think I'm stuck with it but I hardly know what they will do to me >_>

The game is almost a year old and has TONS of improvements and patches, might be worth trying again unless you are bandwidth capped.

This is not your usually dumbed down, console-like, simple game. Definitely has a learning curve to figure out what all the hud and ui does, not to mention all the content and gameplay workings.

I can see myself playing this for well over 100 hours. By that time, SWToR might be fixed up to be fun and F2P also, lol.

It's a good game, it really is... it's just so darn repetitive! :x

Yeah that's my thoughts too after playing for about 6 hours now. It already feels repetitititive. How am I supposed to play this for like 100 hours? Maybe I'm not suited for MMO's anymore after playing WoW. It's like you know what the trick is now, and the bare gameplay feels meh.

The space combat felt so right during the beta, I wonder how it's changed by now.

I was a player from the beta and I enjoyed it for a good while. It's biggest problem is that while it may look like Star Trek, it doesn't feel like Star Trek. Also Cryptic's additions to the C-Store infuriated me, especially including mid-tier ships with better stats than those that could be earned in game. Pay to Win is an awful preface to set, and that's why the game will never see me back.

Interested to see how the game has changed since the beta. Beta left me feeling like the game had potential, but was too bare to be worth the monthly fee. There was hardly any social interaction or player impact. I remember enjoying the combat even though it quickly got repetitive. Although, I don't really enjoy the MMO genre anymore since it just feels like a waste of time... nothing has yet to compare to my experience with SW:G.

The space combat is quite fun but that's about all this game has going for it. Ground missions is some of the worst gaming you could experience.
