In Star Trek Online, the Star Trek universe will appear for the first time on a truly massive scale. In this massively multiplayer online game from Cryptic Studios, players can pioneer their own destiny as Captain of a Federation starship.

I completly forgot about this game i remeber telling my dad about it like a year ago because he's a star trek weirdo. I hate Star trek but i like MMO's and this one according to Amazon is to be released 2nd of february. Is any1 planning on actually getting this game or what?

I want to be looking forward to it.. but Cryptic Studios is behind it and, while I have had great respect for them in the past, they flopped (in my opinion) with Champions Online [it could have been so so so much more] and I am worried about where that will lead ST:O gameplay and design wise. I have been a star trek nut since I was very young and watched the original series on TV and the original movie, I would love an MMO that depicted the universe well... but, like I said, I have doubts now about Cryptics ability to do it as good as it should be done. I will wait and see and maybe try out the Open Beta (if I can) - Cryptic can still redeem themselves in my eyes... I hope.

I haven't forgot about it, they have been releasing a steady flow of media for a while. All I can say is I don't know about this one, the more they show the more my expectations lower. It seems they are focusing too much on combat, and not what Star Trek is really about. Every trailer so far has been a laser light show... I'll have to wait for some reviews. Also HOW CAN YOU HATE STAR TREK?!! :P

While I love the "Idea" Cryptic is a terrible Studio and STO will not have a community with the way they run servers which is probably about 80% of the reason why Certain MMO's become successful.

Warcraft, Everquest, Ultima ect... are successes based on Community of each individual server. I play MMO's to Have fun and Socialize with other People.

Cryptic took Champions Online and destroyed the entire Server Idea and Instanced everything and it completly took the community out of the MMO which is why most people play the Genre. Your never around with the same group of players as a server provides so instead of something building within the game server nothing happened, People played and nothing formed, it felt empty and lifeless as nothing unique was created.

And now that Cryptic announced they are doing the same thing for STO, No way Im playing it. In a world like Star Trek, that is totally based on Community and War, Your telling meCryptic doesn't WANT to create server communities in an enviroment like that? Later STO, Failure before it even went into Beta, It actually wont even matter is its a good game, with no community, there is no game.

I played beta round mates who got into closed beta via paying for a life time sub of Champions Online. I guess I can't mention much because of the NDA but STO sucks, don't get your hopes up it's gonna be another MMO flop.
