I've looked at the website, and I think it looks brilliant. But the critics give it a really bad review - who should I listen to? Oh and how much does it cost to play and can you download it instead of buying the disks? If you could help I would be very grateful.

Thanks

I personally would not reccomend the game. It seems some people like the game that never played it before. However, I played when it was first released and sence the change, I will never go back unless they change it back.

Not any more... look else where. Some people are making a free version that is pre-cu, but I don't think that will be out anytime soon.

NO this game has gone from the top all way to the depths of hell, in terms of the fun factor and gameplay experience. They destroyed the game and turned it into a pathetic little WoW clone. Do not even look at this game. I played the trial and it was so horrible it made my eyes bleed.

Star Wars Galaxies used to be awesome before the "upgrade". I remember seeing a Jedi in SWG was rare experience. To become a Jedi you had to do a long, long hard quest. Now, anyone can be a Jedi from the start which ruined the star wars world for me. I guess they had little kids complaining about not being able to be a Jedi. I don't know why they don't release an update to fix it back the way it was. Don't they realize they would get so many of their players back(like me).

Nope, even as a Star Wars fan I cannot recommend the game. It has potential when it came out, but Sony killed it with the "Combat Upgrade" that essentially tried to copy WOW and failed miserably.

Try the demo, (up to 14 days or level 15 I think). I played it back in the day (pre-CU), but stopped playing some time ago. But they have added in a lot of interesting things to the game to try to "spruce" it up. They added more "endgame" content for higher level players in the form of "Heroic Encounters" (I know one lets you fight IG-88, and another Exar Kun) so the game isn't "done" when you beat Mustafar now (unlike 2 years ago). And even though there are only 9 profs, they finally added "expertise" so there's some variety in character builds and whatnot. With TFU i've been fiending for a star wars game until then, but, my PC can't even play galaxies anymore. lol

It was fantastic before Sony came in and "updated" it and allowed anyone to start as a Jedi and removed player bounties.

I played the game when it first came out and I'll tell you now that it's horrible. If you've never played it before, then I don't know if you'd like it or not. I wouldn't recommend it to you because I don't feel I should help SOE make anymore money.

I used to play SWG a lot before the upgrade. But after the upgrade, I uninstalled it like everyone else did. It went from a very good mmo to the worst.

yeah i would have to agree, and the physics and gameplay mechanics are not stable, i mean you kill a guy and then as he is laying on the ground lightning strikes him, that you did in the middle of the fight, it is slow responding, and no its not my pc, and no not my connection, my ping gets no higher than 80ms on any game. but oh am i waiting on Kotor mmo. have very high hopes

SWG was a great game, The first year was really a lot of fun. One of the best if not the best MMORPG I've played. It had incredible character development and you could pretty much make your character into whatever you wanted. Unfortunately, SONY tossed out the skills based system for a generic EQ level based one and what's left is a mediocre, by-the-book, MMO in space. What a waste of potential.

The only thing SWG really needed to fix was the combat which was a little lackluster. Once SONY introduced the holo-grind the game slowly began to go down hill. The NGE and CU were just the final nails.

Sadly, with the success of WoW I don't think we'll ever see another original skill based, open-eneded, MMORPG like SWG. With a few notable exceptions, every MMORPG out today is the same shade of vanilla. They're all pretty much identical mind-numbing grinds with slightly different coats of paint. This genre had so much potential but now it's just filled with clones and also-rans looking to make a quick buck. How very sad.

This was my 1 favorite game that i always went back to and spent countless hours playing back in the pre-cu days, now not so much. If you never experienced pre-cu then you might end up enjoying it, try the trial out a bit. It costs about $15 a month, and i think they still sell digital downloads from direct2drive and the official website.

The only problem is, I've never played it, just looked at it, and I'm not a die-hard Star Wars fan so I guess I won't mind a few glitches, but I kinda want it to be good. I'd actually just love to play anything star wars related, but I think this would be best.

"Sadly, with the success of WoW I don't think we'll ever see another original skill based, open-eneded, MMORPG like SWG."

well, there is EVE-Online, the only real sand-box style sci-fi MMO that's still growing in numbers.

Horrible game now forever destroyed by the "Combat Upgrade" and "New Game Enhancements". It used to be a profession based game. You trained in skills. Then they converted it into a cookie cutter MMO with Classes, and just ruined the entire thing. I sincerely hope this game dies a painful death when Bioware finishes KOTOR Online.

If you really want a Star Wars themed MMO, I seriously suggest just holding out until KOTOR Online is finished, as SWG will most likely kick the bucket when that is launched.

I enjoy it, but then again, I have a Station all-access pass.

Look for a free trial, and find out for yourself.

SOE is doing a promotion now were if you try the trial game, like it and upgrade your account, you get not only Empire Divided land content and Jump to Lightspeed space content, you also get Rage of the Wookies for free. Between those three, if you like the game you can be occupied for a long time. Then there's always Mustafar, not sure if people are always running HK quests anymore. But a good guild could help with that.
