Star Wars: Republic Commando might get a sequel

Tim Longo has left Tomb Raider's Crystal Dynamics and returned to LucasArts where he was employed before as lead designer for Star Wars: Republic Commando.

He then served as the project's director. LucasArts have recently announced a license deal with Epic for their Unreal Engine 3 tech. Are the elite clones returning?

The squad shooter was set during the Clone Wars era of the Star Wars films and picked up quite a following among fans. If LucasArts do plan on working a sequel then they've certainly got the game engine and the man for it.

Tim Longo was Tomb Raider's franchise director at Crystal Dynamics. "Unreal Engine 3 is a forward-looking solution that shortens the path between inspiration and execution on a wide variety of gaming platforms," said LucasArts' director of tech, Zak Phelps.

Republic Commando, the Jedi Knights and KOTOR series (Could also throw in Tie Fighter) are pretty much the best Star Wars games we've gotten. A sequel would be great but the problem is that we've been let down a lot by LucasArts' new games recently.

battlefront I & II were REALLY good

Awesome. Let's hope they don't ruin the game by adding health regen and that kind of crap.

I would love to see another Republic Commando and if a new one does come out then I can only hope it stays true to Republic Commando and doesn't become Call of Duty: Republic Commando (which honestly doesn't sound that bad as a CoD game's title).

If we get this and Battlefront 3 Star Wars games will be amazing again.

Republic Commando was a decent squad shooter, but I too have lost faith in Lucasarts to deliver great games these days. They really need to build up a strong dev team again, like they had in the days of the original Jedi Knight.

Speaking of which, I'd much rather see a full-blown remake of Dark Forces 1 & 2 combined into a new epic game telling the story of Kyle Katarn. The power of modern engines is there to make it a truly epic experience - but I doubt the willingness or talent is there to bring such a project to fruition. I guess we can all dream...

It's about time, i've been waiting years for this :)
