Publisher Electronic Arts today classified BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMO The Old Republic as a "microtransaction-based" title, indicating that the game will include alternative financial models other than a subscription fee.

Anyone else really interested in seeing what way this is going?

im sure by microtransaction they mean pay-by-hour. A lot of people object to monethly fees because they feel they dont play enough to justify it.

I dont think its such a good idea; a nice, simple monthly rate works just fine (assuming theyre going to charge something).

It (monthly fee) seems to work just fine for the 11 million subscribed to WoW, although I heared something about hourly rates for some asian countries, not sure if that's true though.

I just hope they're not making it so that you can buy a realy good weapon for real money. that would just suck, and not be good for the player economy in-game.

if this is true it's gonna be another flop from EA. not that i would ever buy an EA mmo. i'm sure it will blow, they'll find something to intentionally mess up.

Pay-by-hour or pay-by-game money.

Either way, this is an MMO that should be avoided at all costs and BioWare should get back to making a single player KotOR III.

Micro-transaction usually means selling in-game items, services etc.

Sounds good, as long as they scrap the old rpg model with 2D and mouse clicking - and they better be working on wall running as the first animation. Kill the HUD.
