starcraft 2 game of the year

what are the chances of starcrafr 2 getting game of the year?

it's my personal goty but most major gaming sites choose the mainstream console shooter/action games

goty is really insiginificant from pretty much every website. none really stand out as more prestigious than the others at least in my opinion

I think the only games that are possibly going to get game of the year are Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft 2.

To all those above thinking GOTY is a "fan service" then how the heck did Demon Souls win last year and not Uncharted 2 (as expected by MAJORITY of the people who played it and LOVED it). Let's face it, PC games aren't getting GOTY because they (more often than not) don't deserve them. Anywho, I doubt Starcraft 2 is gonna win, it didn't bring anything new to the genre and was much like the first game with better graphics (more or less stated in multiple reviews).

My vote goes to either super mario galaxy 2 or heavy rain (most unique game this year).

It might have a good chance, because it's pretty awesome (especially in the eyes of the nowadays players)

Its one of the years best games, but like someone else said.. most sites only care about console gaming.

I think RDR will be GOTY almost everywhere.

starcraft 2 was disappointment of the year for me

game is great and i'm glad that i bought it...but i was expecting much more from the blizzard and starcraft

after all this years of waiting... we got starcraft 1 in HD ...

Clearly you have not played mario galaxy 2, heck, just read the review if you haven't. The review alone indicates it was an improvement over the 1st. Only thing starcraft 2 improved was the graphics. Heck, they even removed the lan feature from it.

I own both games actually, Mario Galaxy 1 and Mario Galaxy2... They are not a huge difference from each other. Now Mario Galaxy1 and Super Mario World, that is a huge difference.

I think Galaxy2 will win GOTY at most places, but not for the reasons you listed, its a rehash of Mario Galaxy1 imo, which is a godo thing in the end, but Mario Galaxy 2 really didnt bring many new things to the table. Sure Galaxy2 is the better game, but its not that different from Mario Galaxy1 like you are making it out to be.

Starcraft2 and Mario Galaxy2 both didnt bring much NEW or Innovative thigns to the table imo, but are still two amazing games.

So before making mindless assumptions, you should take a sniff and see if you reek of common sense and some here are extremely ignorant if they believe that SC 2 won't get a single GOTY award, for RTSs and some, like you guys think GOTY is, general GOTY nominations.

Gamespot will give it RTS GOTY, so bonafidetk already failed with his assumptions, but only a multiplatform will get final GOTY and there can be only one Black Ops.

Black Ops will probably get it... :roll:

GS tends to give GOTY to games that 'innovate.' For that reason I doubt SC 2 will win. Sounds like SMG 2 might be in the same boat - a high quality game that doesn't bring a whole lot new to the table. Pure speculation though, I've never played a SMG game.

As far as sequels go, Mass Effect 2 made a lot of very significant changes from the original, and for that reason I think it will win. Its one of the first games to successfully incorporate RPG elements with a solid shooter core without overly compromising aspects of either genre.

They're different in structure, with SMG2 clearly having more creative level design as well as additional gameplay mechanics that work very well.

Galaxy 2 pulls in more than enough to stand well as a full-fledged sequel. Do you honestly expect an overhaul when the original game was only released three years ago? The objective of a sequel is push the boundaries of the original game, and that is something SMG2 does very, very well.

If anything, Starcraft 2 should be criticized for sticking too close to the original game that came out more than ten years ago.
