StarCraft MMO blasts into orbit!Saturday 5-May-2007 2:00PM Blizzard's new sci-fi MMO is set to rock the world later this month, CVG has learned. The long-rumoured new instalment of Blizzard's massive StarCraft series is set to be unveiled later this month - and it's another massively-multiplayer online game in the style of World of Warcraft, CVG can reveal. Well placed US sources have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom. The unveiling of the new instalment has previously been rumoured for the South Korea event, though we now know that the title is in fact an online spin-off and not a new RTS game as previously assumed. Of course this is massive news for both Vivendi and the MMO world; Blizzard's other online offering World of Warcraft has topped 6 million subscribers and is arguably the biggest game around today. The question is, is there room for both World of Warcraft and a StarCraft MMO? The later will have to be a very different type of online game to convince gamers to subscribe to both of Blizzard's pair. We will of course let you know as soon as soon as Blizzard officially confirms the game on May 19.

Either people will be paying Blizz to play WoW, or paying Blizz to play WoS. Either way, Blizzard is making the money.....

Blizzard has denounced the fact that they are becoming an exclusively MMO company and I'd really hate them for turning Starcraft into another cash cow.

In my opinion this is bogus. Things like this have been wrong many many times before.

There is talk about this on GAF, and it seems to be true.

I guess there is no hope for D3.

I'd like to see them try, unless they have something amazing up their sleeve, they are gonna get owned by Warhammer anyways imo.
I hope they'll make Starcraft 2 a RTS just like the first one, instead of driving it off the road.

and i agree, Diablo 3 is the next logical MMO for them, not world of starcraft. Mythical lore works SOOOO much better for MMO's than Sci-fi. The only Sci-fi MMO that i can see working would be Warhammer 40k, which is what blizz ripped off for starcraft

Thats bad news....mainly because we are gonna have to wait at  least 3 more years for this to be released, as blizzard won't release anything other than some wow espansion in this time period

also, that means our hopes for a true starcraft sequel are destroyed. and whats even worse, we can give up on diablo 3 for an undefinate period of time (well, at least hellgate: london is coming out)

i head this from a friend who supposedly has a friend who works in blizzard(this is in RL btw)(i dont really believe him-.-) he says it is the game they will be unveiling may 19 and it wont be called world of starcraft but worlds of starcraft...The name is the only thing that would prove he is telling the truth.

The makers of Diablo 2 had quit at the release of patch 1.10. So the hope for D3 never existed.

yes but now most of those people are now part of Flagship studios and are making another game like Diablo called Hellgate: London, which you should check out

It said MMO, not MMORPG.  I'm putting my money on Blizzard shooting for a revolutionary MMORTS with persistant worlds and epic battles.

Noooo. I rathered have Starcraft Ghost resurrected, also, competing against themselves doesn't seem too smart
