Be it only a post on another message board but it seems legit.

Probably the worst move I have ever seen by a gaming company... ever.

Yep sure they do, because Blizz always reveals info in some random interviews from some unknown guys...oh wait.

Except for the fact it's also posted on IGN as well. I consider them to be somewhat reputable at least.

Myself and 4 other friends of mine will refuse to buy this game if it is true or not changed, I could overlook the "episodic" campaign releases but this just goes too far.

even though this is an "lol wut" moment, not having LAN isn't the end of the world. I know many people will be very dissapointed, but many people may have not even played LAN with the original Starcraft. Now if they charge for B.Net services, then that is an extremely legitimate reason not to buy.

I have to say prety dissapointing on Blizzards part but not a big deal. Although If they charge for Battle. Net then that would be annoying. In that case it would be :- - CA charging extra for units with a specail Edition - Valve releasing L4D sequel just after one year - Blizzard charging for battle.net And worst - Trine $20 on PSN and $40 on PC

I am not sure if this is a real problem.. The vast majority of people who have a lan network is already connected to the internet through high speed internet.. I would only see it as a major blow if they were gonna omitt spawn copies to which you only had to own one game to play with a few player.. But I think they have discontinued it sense starcraft, Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 never had it..

I will buy it , but aftera price drop; or sp. My guess is by the time PSN version releases the PC Version would also drop off to $20-$15

I agree. I wont mind blizz charging IIFFFFF the 12-15$ monthly fee (depending on how many monthsyou buy). Buys time for WoW, SC DLC, D3 DLC, and constant support patching with fast rate for downloading the content. And maybe access to older games:) Blizz is the only respectable gaming company left in the world. Lets see what happens. Vavle is about to be bad depending on their next move which could break them. CA just plain sucks btw, im a ETW player, or ex. player and you probably already know my reasons.

Not sure about that... I don;'t understand what the fuss is.. This is 2009.. The vast majority of us who are looking forward to the multiplayer as well as having a lan, already has a highspeed internet connection.. Whats wrong with just making a private game online or what not?

This only applies to mostly not competitive players who play from home.

The guys who play the game competitively won't be able to play it properly at LAN parties, because with no LAN support LAN parties are meaningless, and the aforementioned guys can't bother playing with B.net latency.

I know a couple of my friends who don't have fast enough internet to support 4+ players playing multiplayer online. This is why we tend to just do a regular old lan with our games (normally warcraft 3 or nazi zombies)

You guys are also forgetting that during LAN Parties and such - not everyone has the game. This will now force each individual person to own a copy of the game to play at a LAN event. I also can't even skirmish with my brother unless he buys his own copy...even though we live in the same household. Ridiculous if you ask me.

I'd want money from all those people. I know quite a few people who play Starcraft and they just copy/past the files from a USB and start up a LAN game. Perhaps online activation would be a more reasonable solution though.

With a game as big as Starcraft 2 it wouldn't be hard for some hardcore players to reprogram the code to think its LAN and basically work on Hamachi.

Disappointing, but a hit against potential pirates. One less feature of the game. Maybe Blizzard has forgotton that not everyone in the world has a good internet connection as in Korea where LAN matches are pretty much nonexistent now over there (simply no point as internet is fast enough).

We'll see what happens. Too early to judge the game now.

Sit through online activation? I haven't even noticed it for the games that I own. Heck, I just installed Dead Space again the other day and I didn't even see a pop-up saying "Activating Online." It's hardly an inconvenience for a paying consumer, but unless you're a profession game cracker, you don't know how difficult it would be to remove that online activation. It's a better alternative than no LAN games? Or would you prefer that?

You must be kidding, SC LAN in Korea is huuuuge. In fact I'm almost sure they'll put in some sort of LAN capability if they're any good at their jobs, because it would be a big mistake and big hit to the competitive community if Blizz excludes such a thing.

edit: also, internet connection speed and ping/lag aren't necessarily the same thing. I've got a 10MBps connection and I get serious lag issues in many online games. Such lag is unacceptable in competitions, people would laugh.

probably to keep pirates out from playing the game with hamachi although for me it won't affect me but for the professional crowd and all the Koreans this will suck big time for them it ruins the Lan party potential sc2 had. but for me as long as there don't start charging for battlenet im fine.

altough blizz would be crazy to not include a lan option at least exclusivsly for the korean verison of the game.

Thats because when you play games online, you play with people that may often be fairly far away. Korea is a small country. Play an online game on a server in your state or close to you, and your going to get a ping less than 50.

besides, 10 Mbs is low end in Korea.

Thats because when you play games online, you play with people that may often be fairly far away. Korea is a small country. Play an online game on a server in your state or close to you, and your going to get a ping less than 50.

besides, 10 Mbs is low end in Korea.

Wow, I get like 150kb/s for downloads. The only reason that works is because I live near Dallas and that's usually the hub for most game servers.

You must be kidding, SC LAN in Korea is huuuuge. In fact I'm almost sure they'll put in some sort of LAN capability if they're any good at their jobs, because it would be a big mistake and big hit to the competitive community if Blizz excludes such a thing.

Yes I understand this (and protip: not everybody is American). But I'm not a pro gamer and I notice the slowdowns a lot. Even if you cut the lag down due to being in a small country, you'll still be feeling it, it might get intermittently worse during peak hours, etc. Neither are acceptable, especially when there is & has been a much better alternative for decades.

Well there is another factor to it also...part of the reason you get so much lag in games like Starcraf is because their P2P games, and not hosted on centralized servers like most FPS games. Meaning that another players poor connection would cause your ping to go up. This isnt at all a problem in Korea, where everyone has high speed internet.

I strongly suspect that the ping you would from this game being played in Korea would be so low, it would be effectivly unnoticable to all but the most vetren players.

So what about the veteran players? People who go to LANs and competitions are usually veteran players, after all. How are they gonna take it when you say, "sorry, we're gonna make things slower than they used to be."
