Its never too late to join us :D, everyday new players start playing SC mostly Brood War. So dont feel intimidated just because u just joined the party and ppl like me have been playing since 98 ^^. Like every other "skill" all u need to do is practice if u want to be good, join the Teamliquid.net forums and i assure u they will help u grow as a player as they have strategy forums and newbie forums all that sort of things so is not like ur alone, and not to mention all the first person vods they have with pro players explaining what they are doing and why they are doing it so u will learn a lot pretty fast.
Over time u will get faster executing commands and will have more APM, once u learn all the Hot keys and Build orders u can do in every situation(it sounds more difficult than it really is) ur good to go. If u have anymore questions u can always PM me ^^.
PS: If u want to play SC2 in the future i suggest u play BW now that way u wont be a noob when it comes out :p, i havent played BW in 3 years and i came back just for that reason haha.
You'll never come close to the level of skill of a large portion of the SC community at this point in time. You might as well wait a few months for SC2.F1_2004And how do you know that? Blizzard just announced that we will get a SC 2 beta in a few months, and for them a few months could mean almost one year, and after the beta is over they won't just release the game, they will spend another half an year or so on it :/ with this announcement I doubt we will see SC 2 this year, and again, I'm beginning to believe Diablo 3 will be released in 2012 or so :/. but.....I can wait.....I guess.
Play through the single player campain; it's got a great story and you'll be a fairly good player near the end, expecially if you manage to finish Brood War. Then decide if you want to go up against those crazies on Battle.net. Personally, I don't like playing rts's on multiplayer, mostly because turtling isn't a vert effective strategy.dos4gw82This.
starcraft 1 yes just ignore the poor expansions. they all were rather terrible (brood war was meh, the others all junk)aura_enchantedare you crazy? There was only one expansion and that was Brood war. Plus the games can be picked up for cheap so TC you should get the expansion.

Insurrection doesnt count :/, no one played t hat thing and blizzard didnt even make it. And WHAT!!!?? BROOD WAR WAS MEH!?? its the best competitive RTS made to date O_o, its been in e-sports competition since 1998 for god sakes :?, not to mention is the RTS with more players online, since what year again?? yea 1998. U obviously know nothing about BW sir.[QUOTE="aura_enchanted"][QUOTE="Dr_Brocoli"] are you crazy? There was only one expansion and that was Brood war. U obviously know nothing about BW sir.well aside from story (as every expansion is supposed to forward story) it added what 10 new units omg its the end of the known universe. thats not alot of improvement over the origional. and insurection does count otherwise i no longer consider WoTLK a WoW expansion because they outsourced the physics to nivida thus not making it fully there own game. so what now? hmmm?
Blizzard authorized Aztech New Media to DEVELOP AND PUBLISH that "expansion" but had nothing to do with the development so no it doesnt count for me(WOTLK WAS DEVELOPED BY BLIZZARD AND PUBLISHED BY ACTIVISION)
As for BW being a "poor" expansion cuz it "only" added 10 new units, its actually 7 by the way by my count, WHAT MORE DO U WANT!? a new game? Those 7 units changed the game completely and rebalanced it to become the most perfectly balanced rts game(unlike WC3), it doesnt depends on what units u have it depends on how and when u used them. U also forget all the upgrades they added for the already existing units, those little tweaks really changed a lot of the core gameplay but without "ruining" it.
U obviously dont know enough about the game so stop it :/, u dont play the game enough, ur not part of the community, u dont see how the game has evolved since its release, u dont see how strategies change with every new map and change the balance of the game. If blizzard hadnt released BW, SC would not be what it is now since it could have died by now, the gameplay of SC was really imbalanced which doesnt make a very good e-sport(idk how WC3 made it there).

i got into SC about 5 months ago and i get owned weekly. The SP campaign is a beast and I did beat ALL of it. my current online record is 2-17 or something so dont expect to win, but it IS a really fun game. get it
[QUOTE="Xeros606"]i know its reeeeally old, but im now interested in rts games since i played the halo wars demo. a lot of people say that this game is much better (much more complex) than halo wars, and that its one of the best rts games out there. i got the demo for this, and while im not so good (i cant issue commands fast enough) i think im getting the hang of it especially since i just discovered that you can use the keyboard as well lol. my main issue is that this game is like 10 years old and when you play a game for almost 10 years, your probably gonna be better than a newbie. it took me quite a while to get good at cs a few years ago, and im still mastering the railgun in quake 3 while everyone figured out how to kill in a split second 10 years ago. do you think the multiplayer community in its current state is too good for a newcomer? do you think ill still be able to catch up?
Ugh, if that horrible Halo's war demo interested you in RTS's there may be a problem. Try a real RTS like C&C or CoH or DoW before thiniing you know what a real RTS is....

ive played all the cnc games until ra2. and tbh i dont think its much different from a "real" rts, they just cut out all the micro. You'll never come close to the level of skill of a large portion of the SC community at this point in time. You might as well wait a few months for SC2.F1_2004You are saying that YOU belive that you are unable to do it! I owned vast majority of online players in any game in few days/weeks, it's just about your willingness to learn, that's all. I never really understanded that **** about what mouse pro player use etc.. it does not matter, if the guy want to be best SC player he will be.. sooner or later no matter that some Korean dude is playing it since was out, anyone can beat him..
