Okay, I watched all the trailers and intros for all the classes and new units.

My question is are they keeping ALL the units from the original sc and broodwar or are they replacing some with the new ones ??

Like for example are they replacing the original dragoon with the dark dragoon or will you be able to build both ?

cause it seems like for the toss they got soooo many new units and I was just wondering if they plan to keep all the classics and add new ones, anyone know ? thanks

I believe they are keeping some old ones (zealots, marines, siege tanks. zerglings, battle cruisers) but also its nice they are adding some new ones, like the colossus and the reapers. To answer your dragoon question, the new dragoons are called stalkers and they have an ability to teleport ahead by a few feet.

but my question is, are they keeping every single last unit from starcraft ?? because if they arn't that will be a HUGE disapointment. I want to be able to stick to some of my old strats and stuff and want to mix old units with new units for a big massive showdown you know, anyways

Does anyone know if they are keep all, every single, 100% of the old units ???

Some stayed the same: Marines, Zealot, Battlecruisers, etc.

Some are the same but are renamed: Dragoons are now immortals, Scouts are now (pretty much) Phoenix, Wraiths are now Banshee.

Some got completely changed and not just renamed: Valkyrie AND Goliaths got merged into Viking.

Some are just completely new: Stalkers, Reapers, Thor.

Some were completely removed and theres no equivalent: Reavers, Firebats, Arbiter, Science Vessel, and a few other.

For the most part, both Terran and Protoss have roughly the same units as part 1. Many just have slightly different roles.

EDIT: i didnt see that post above. Blizzard says that every unit from the original WILL be in the game for map makers. But no, not every unit will be transferred over for regular play. Having some of those olds units plus all new ones, would be seriously overpowered. Reavers's only weakness was air and mass units. Pair up Reavers with Colosuss and you can basically kill anything every time.

they said that they plan to have in total, around the same number of units as in SC1....

they plan to remove half the old units, and put in new ones...as well as redo many of the old ones so that they play and function differently.

wow, i'm pretty disapointed about starcraft II now, they can't just take out units, we all grew acustomed to the firebat !! and all the originals, I really liked using those units like the arbiter and science vesel, they're were actually usefull I dont understand why they would even consider removing units.... I got alot to reconsider now about Starcraft II.....

they are taking them out to make way for all the new units...they mentioned that they didnt want 2 units within the same side that played similar or filled the same role...so they decided to remove units that they felt were 2 similar or played similar roles within the army....

it will probably be all for the better...if this is anything like Blizzards other games...then they will have plenty of memorable units.

They have also stated that the old units that dont appear in the game itself, will be available for mappers and modders to use in the map editor.

Im happy with the change. Firebats were pretty useless late game, since fights became more about big units and air combat.

The abilities of the science vessel and arbiter are all around, they just got added to other units. Blizzard plans to have no support only units (with the possible exception of the observer). I think the vulture equivalent has the shield matrix and the Mothership has the ability to cloak other units in a small area.

Some of the old units from SC and SC:BW werent that fun in the first place. Firebats, Vultures (except for spider mines), fact that reavers consumed a lot of minerals to maintain their power, and as for zergs: resource-heavy ultralisks, too many upgrades for overlords, infested terrans being a pain to acquire and that hydralisks were the only ones I really used as zerg in later parts of the game.

Also, if we just kept the old units and thrown in new ones, the game would become dull in the sense that some units won't see the battle often and the game itself not being different from its precedor.

I think what they are doing is great, everyone was asking for a new game if you wanted ur old units you shuda asked for an expansion pack. I am as big a starcraft fan as the next person buh i believe that Blizzard will create a great new balanced gaming experience.

hmmm maybe your right, maybe its time for a change of units, But just one thing, the science vesels emp was really good vs toss , they should add that to another unit as well I think, but we'll just see how things turn out when the game comes out, see if it makes a difference or not whether all the old units stay, but they will certainly not be forgotten !

i like the fact that they are adding and replacing old units that were not integral to the game. for example removing wraith and goliath with the viking excellent change.
