The reason I ask is that I am wondering if its the sort of game for me. It 'appears' to be the kind of game I would like but I'm really struggling to find somewhere that tells me about the game itself rather than just gushing at how amazing SC2 will be and that its the game everyone has been waiting for.

I'm hoping its a C&C style game as C&C is one of my all time favourite franchise games and I do miss playing it but have completed all of them SO many times now I'm bored of them. Basically I'm asking is SC2 in the C&C vein and if I liked C&C so much is SC2 the game for me? I'm a fan of Blizzard as they already own most of my soul (I play WoW) so all and any suggestions and advice will be greatly recieved.

You will like Starcraft in the vein that it expands and evolves upon the old formula of C & C where you have to build and manage abase in order to support your army. But Starcraft has infinitely more layers of depth in comparison with its completely original 3 races. There is noGroup 2's version ofGroup 1's Tank. Units are completely diverseand counter each other in more dynamic ways than just parking your units and letting them shoot each other. You will be greatly rewarded for your time spent with it.

The gameplay is very similar to C&C. I would says it's closest to Generals since you have 3 completely different races, plus you can build anywhere you can move your builder units to.

I'm actually excited to see where the story is going to go. After watching the trailer, it's going to be more of a cinematic-based story.

Just look up HDstarcraft on youtube. Actually I'll link the first half of a match. this will tell you what it is like.

Also I really doubt it is gonna be all cinematics for the story, just look at starcraft and WC3. I heard there will be more cinematics in this game than the previous blizzard games, which might be why they had such a huge budget for this game.

does SC2 include unit positioning(or what ever it's called when you place them in cover, face gunners in certain direction etc.) like COF & DOW2 or is it just about the amount/skills of units?

You don't have a cover system in SC 2, you have to do all of it yourself, there's nothing random in it like it's in CoH or DoW 2, if 3 units killed the exact same units the one that killed them was better.

i agree. i think they had very good strategy elements. they made the environment relevant.

even a strong unit was useless, if it wasn't used properly.

Damage taken in CoH and DoW 2 while in cover is extremely random, you might or might not die if you repeat a certain scenario several times, it doesn't have strict rules, everything is random from statistics to bullet trajectory.

It;s not exactly random though. It's influenced by a number of factors. Real war wouldn't be the same if you repeated the same scenario over and over. It's an evolution in the RTS genre.

Cover just gives you better chance to survive, it's not supposed to make units immortal.

Bullets can't go through a rock, while you are behind a rock you are invincible against bullets, they don't just go through when they please, the cover and randomness of CoH and DoW 2 makes them fun, but hardly realistic and it automatically makes them "not competitive", random has no place in a competitive game.

while we are going way offtopic here, i have to disagree. you need to have your units at a right place at a right time and you can make a difference with that, rather than just building a massive army. i wouldn't exactly call any other RTS any more realistic than CoH...

e: i think Relic games have a good competitive multiplayer, but i'm not saying SC2 would not have. vice versa, i'm actually looking forward to it, even that it's quite different from Relic's games.
