I have been playing starcraft for the past 3 weeks everyday (never skipped) and I suck massively. I am not sure if its the race I am using or the way I play. I used cheats on a few Zerg missions. Eye for an EYE is impossible for me, The zergling rush dont do crap, because they die by those worm looking protoss. I need tips on what type of army to get and what to build first. (give me a timeline limit). It takes me like almost an hour just to beat a mission, I know thats so long, but Its just hard to get resources, especially if the game is rigged. Its so hard, Its like if I send 2 of those zerg rhinoceros's and like 10 of those zerg green spitters and like 15 zerglings, I end up dying in seconds!

I was never any good at Starcraft, either. It sucked having my guys get killed after it took 45 minutes to get them all ready. Starcraft is a good game, I was just never any good at it.

try watching some replays on how pros play, when to expand, how to macro/micro, etc. It will help lots. if you are playing a computer, it's quite easy to win, since the computer will not tailor its strategy to yours. just spam/outproduce a certain type of unit (zerglings for example) and upgrade melee attack (or w/e corresponds to the main unit you are using) and carcass (armour), it helps lots. if you are having trouble taking out of enemy fortified points, get a defiler and use Swarm on it, then rush lings :D these are just some easy tips to start playing SC against a computer, but getting good at playing on bnet takes a lot of time and effort.

I rock at SC :) been years since i played though .... you just gotta expand faster prob you need more resource and make sure you are spending it dont let your resources get high cause that means your not using them and there is no saving them for later or anything... also work on buidling placement that is important

Nice tip, so thats whats good about a defiler. I never use those units that cant attack (science vessels, Queen, Defiler, etc) but I will start to use them more often.

I just started playing it recently and am a few missions into the Zerg Campaign. I had to face one of those Protoss worm things and man are they annoying! Their projectiles practically took out half of my army! The best way to deal with them is to take them out by air with those flying crab things.

I'm not really a serious RTS gamer or anything, but I also found the Starcraft single player campaign to be rather difficult when I started playing a few months ago.  I got stuck on the 9th zerg mission and sort of just gave up, but I'll probably go back to it eventually.  That's the one where you have to send some drones to collect special crystals from a super-fortified protoss position that has tons of difficult enemy units, including those annoying "dark templar" things.  I have expanded my base and exhausted the all vespene gas on the upper half of the map and I still can only manage to chip away at the protoss bases surrounding the crystals.  It's dumb.

Play online and then you'll realize exactly what you need. The most common thing to see from people who play zerg online are the following: 1) mass zerglings, 2) mass hydrolisks, 3) mass zerglings and hydrolisks, and 4) mass guardians. Since your playing single player and you have limited resources i suggest that you get a few guardians to combat those worms (since they can't attack air) but have options 1 and 3.

Rofl! online is crazy! Just find a custom game server like 'Godzilla' and you can create 100 units a second and try to take out 'Godzilla' [whos actually a super powerfull hydralisk ;) ] I find the koerian servers to be the best but they a L337 :D

The real fun of Starcraft is playing online. I suck (about 1 win to 2 loss average) but it's still a lot of fun to play even though it is a little old. I also like to play Age of Empires on my small home network with my friends. I guess they just don't make RTS like they used to...

The game use a complicated version of rock-paper-scissor mechanics for balance. For example, if your opponent's using reaver (the protoss bug robot), then you have to stop using zerglings coz their attack is an aoe which hurts small units clustered together the most. If they are massing reavers, try using air units to take them down. against AI, yes, massing one unit type will usually win you the game. The build order is usually mass producing like 10 hatcheries, then keep clicking on hydralisks or mutalisks. Amass enough of them, say, 100, then "attack walk" them to the enemy base. Against a half competent human opponent tho, usually requires a balanced army to win. Scout often, and know what units your enemy is concentrating on. Click on their units to see their upgrade. If they are mostly upgrading land melee, for example, then you know he's gonna rush you with zergling/zealots, to name but a few. Then build their counters.

The simple answer is:
Vs Comp build 100 units and run them into the enemy.
Vs. Humans build Air Units.

This game is not hard.

It's been years for me, but I think I usually had it at fastest, or one notch awy from the max.  And as far as getting better, it takes practice and experimenting to figure out how to beat each map.  But that's part of the fun.  Just keep playing, and go online a few times and watch what your opponants and allies do.

And you know, I think I may go install it right now.  It's been ages, and I dunno if I ever even beat Brood War.

The best way to become good is get your ass kicked.. Plain and simple.. Be it from the computer or better, a human, it is only way you can become experienced in the game.

Well, all I have to say is if starcraft is too complicated, don't bother with other RTS's.
