I think it's the worst idea of the game. It doesn't go away immediately. It's a bug.

Found this on the Civ Fantics forum: For Civ5, go to My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini, and change SkipIntroVideo = 0 to SkipIntroVideo = 1
Note: You will only see a black screen while the game loads, so don't worry. Apparently the into movie was the "loading screen." That's why it doesn't go away immediatly when you wan to skip it; you're game hasn't loaded yet. Dumb, I know.
Thanks. Some why I prefer the blank screen to the movie.Found this on the Civ Fantics forum: For Civ5, go to My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini, and change SkipIntroVideo = 0 to SkipIntroVideo = 1

Because loading screens are usually less time taking. How much does the game need to load before it actually starts? Besides, when we click to cancel the intro video, it drags on and finally stops at a random time in future.Er, it does that because the game is loading itself while playing the video so you have something to stare at other than a loading screen. Why is that method dumber than simply sticking a loading screen in there?

It's not a bug, just bad game design. The developers chose not to make a loading screen, just have it load in the background of the movie. If you remove the intro movie, you see a black screen until the loading finishes. How long you have to wait depends on your computer. On really fast computers it can be 10 seconds, on really slow ones 2 minutes. The background loading is actually nice the first time you play the game. You watch the whole movie and don't even realize it was loading. It's only after you've played the game a few times that you notice this.
Well, I rather see a loading screen than a movie. I would hate seeing the same movie over and over again, but I'd imaging that many of use are so use to loading screens we kind of just ignore them and take them for granted. It's kind of like those "invisible words" when you read a novel as most people tend to gloss over "he/she said" all the time. I'd say a black screen is a nice compromise. :)Er, it does that because the game is loading itself while playing the video so you have something to stare at other than a loading screen.
