Hi All,

Just looking for a bit of advice. I mainly play FPS games, but would like to get into real time strategy. I have been trying to play the Homeworld 2 campaign and have getting destroyed! Is this a particularly hard RTS?!

Can anyone recommend a good place to start that will get me into genre. Age of the game not too much of a concern.

Many thanks in advance.

Yes Homeworld 2 is very hard. I myself have never gotten a full grasp of the 3d movment.

Try World in Conflict, Command and Conquer 3, or Dawn of War.

Those are some modern standard RTS's that are easier to play. Especially World in Conflict.

100000's suggestions are all great, but don't give up on Homeworld just yet. Especially if you like sci-fi. If you could start with the first game, Homeworld, it would help a bit. Part of the difficulty of the Homeworld series is that you are expected to have all of the right units when you start some of the missions where you don't have the time or resources to actually build them. So you have know which to build before you complete the previous mission, and this requires using a guide. Other great RTS games to check out are Warcraft series, Starcraft series, and Company of Heroes series.

Coming from an FPS background = complexity issues.

Something simple would be C&C or Dawn of War.

I'd recommend Age of Empires 3 to start you off. Then buy Medieval 2 Total War and Company of Heroes.

Ewww, not a fan of Warcraft to be honest. It's a game that's all about micro, and as an FPS person, you probably don't want to jump into that so fast. Start with something simple that you can create massive armies for, like C&C3, then move onto harder games like CoH. I've never played Homeworld before so I'm going to give that a looksee. If you're feeling really bold, play starcraft. It's quite possible the closest to "perfect" an RTS game has ever come.

Hey,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check some out and give them a try. It is good to get an idea of ones that are accessible to people new to the genre.
