What do you mean by "ready"? You obviously don't have all the components necessary to build a complete PC.

Don't stay with a Quad, get a dual socket board and go octo-core.

Idiots. Quit screwing around with this kid. He's obviously confused an only wants some help. geez.

Yes, Quad's fine. In fact, more than fine. That'll last you for a while before you have to upgrade your processor. If you want to know what else to buy, id go for at least 2 GB RAM, and try to find some at 800 mhz or with a CAS latency of 5. As for your GPU, get a 8800 GT of some sort. AS for the case, just try to find one with 3x 120 mm fans.

These days you can find cheap & good 2GB RAMs(2x1024MB)

Corsair TwinX PC6400 (800MHz) CL4 or CL5 It hink it's nealy 60$-70$

Do you have a PCi-E graphic card in your P4 ? If you have just remove it from there & put it to your new one.

otherwise you have to buy a good card 8800GT is a good card for the price. If it a bit expensive, buy HD 3870.

Also you can find cheap good casings (~50$)

Cooler Master Centurion 5 (1x120MM fan, 1x92MM fan)

Yeah the quad is fine, but not as fine as the Core 2 duos. The motherboards are not yet ready for the quad cores, not even that good for the dual ones, so I suggest you getting a E6850.

In my opinion, there is no real reasons to go with a core2 duo. Why get a core2 duo when you can overclock a core2 Quad to 3.00Ghz, and get pretty much the same result as a E8650, for the same price.

But you can also easily overclock E6850 to 3.9Ghz. Beat that whit Quad core!

It's not all about frequency. You can't overclock the extra cores. I can see building a new system with a dual core, if your budget is tight...but building a high-end rig with a dual core is kinda short sighted. The cheapest Intel quad core proc for socket 775 is the Xeon X3210. It's a G0 stepping Kentsfield, running at 2.13Ghz and costs $246.99. If I were building a rig and had to choose between the X3210 and the E6850, I'd save $30, get the quad and clock it to 3Ghz.

What the hell are you saying? Current motherboards support both core2duos and quads fine!

I was just about to post that. It's the software that is maybe not up to the times with Quad. Mobos are running just fine though. I think he got confused or something.

what are you talking about motherboards dont support quad yet, and barley support dual cores? have you looked at a benchmark? sure the dual cores may perform rqually in some benchmarks that dont utilize dual cores, but for those that do see an imense increase in performance, and alot of programs and games coming out are going multithreaded and you will see the quad pulling even further ahead.

for a budget a dual core is good, for a system that you want to last the quad is a much better choice.

The PSU is too light. You'll need to replace it, if you get this one.
