So I suddenly have a craving for some stealth action, emphasis on the stealth

I've played:

Thief
Hitman
Splinter Cell up to and including Double Agent, which was awful imo

Thats about all the "pure" stealth-action games I've played, minus a few I cant recall.

So I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations? Thanks guys

well you could try AC 1&2, it has some stealth elements. Also, POP:T2T had some enjoyable stealth. Rainbow Six vegas 2 was a great stealth game imo, but somehow repetitive, but still was enjoyable.

I'm guessing that you've already played Batman: Arkham Asylum? If not, that. There's also Assassin's Creed 1+2, but you might've already played them, too.

I've also heard good things about the Death to Spies series, but I've never played any of them myself.

yeaI played those, Batman was excellent, as was AC1 (I dont want to buy AC2 yet)

but theyre too actiony. I want the slow, methodical stalking and lurking like in Thief and early Splinter Cell games.

Sniper Elite maybe? I don't know if it's considered 'pure stealth'.Rheorin

Bingo! I played the demo, I loved it, might try it out it should be pretty cheap.

Tell me, though, I heard it can turn into a generic shooter pretty quick, is this true?

I think it has more to do with sniping rather than actual stealth-mechanics employed in the games you mentioned above. So it might not be the best idea for a "pure stealth" craving. It's a surprisingly fun sniper game though. :)

yea but youre still stalking your prey, which is more than enough for me. It doesnt have to have shadows and a lightmeter and stuff (though I love those mechanics)

I just want something with slow tempo, though intense despite that.

death to spies was good but is a bit dated now. if you have an xbox 360 get the original xbox version of double agent its very similar to chaos theory and is really good.

the new splinter cell, despite what some claim, can be played very stealthily too and is actually, for the most part, a really decent game. take your time, ramp the difficulty up and take down the enemies through stealth and its fantastic fun (ive written about it in my blog if you want some more info).

right now its going for half price and the drm hasnt caused me a single issue yet and prevented me from playing when i want. i recommend if you like stealth because there's not, other than alpha protocol, much else on offer

When you said stealth action game I thought you were reading the description of Splinter Cell Conviction. So, I would try that

Conviction is a really cool game.. much much much more fluid game mechanics than Double Agent. Co-op is a blast... and I hear you can play Alpha Protocol as a stealth game should you so choose.

Conviction doesn't really feel like a stealth game, more like a game where you hide and run around shooting at people. SCCT is a much better splinter cell experience. But Batman not only is an amazing game but it also has some cool stealth moments and gadgets. If it wasn't for the drm I would say AC2 (although not really much of a stealth game).. http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-2-Pc/dp/B001TOQ8R0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1275102807&sr=8-3 $35 on amazon.

I'm sure it depends how you play. I actually like that you're not completely useless if you get detected, unlike most stealth games.

If you still have your Thief 2 disc, then you should download and install Darkloader and then you can enjoy hundreds of fan missions that are just as good (many better) as the original missions. Graphics are a bit dated now, but fans have done an excellent job making the most out of the Dark engine. But playing Thief fan missions will definitely give you endless quality stealth gaming. The Thief fan mission community is still very active. Go here to find all you need to know to get started: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=100

Thief is really a great stealth game.

But if you want to try another game, I would recommend Metal Gear Solid 2

It can be a generic shooter if you play on lower difficulties, mostly because you get things like crosshairs, quick switch weapons, etc. But on higher difficulties, those are all removed, forcing you to be stealthy.

The original Deus Ex could be played through mainly utilising stealth if you wished to. You should be able to pay peanuts for it now so it would be worth a punt just to see if you're thang.

No One Lives Forever 2, was excellent, and holds up well even now.

This is a decent example, even though the guy is playing a bit dumb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoopOkHNeVIYou can (and if your into stealth, should) do most the missions without needing to really kill that much.

PLUS! It is fun, funny, and has a sexy protagonist you enjoy playing. (she is really amusing in cut-scenes, if I recall)

Yeah! No One Lives Forever 2 encouraged stealthy gameplay, and... holy crap, I haven't played it in so long. The first one's great too, but no emphasis on stealth. I really enjoyed Death to Spies. It was like Hitman but more hardcore and less polished. If you love stealth games you'll probably love it. I did. There's also a much more obscure, older stealth game called Gorky Zero, it didn't seem like that good of a game from the demo I played, but it provided some decent entertainment. Also, any of those top down squad strategy games like Desperados and Commandos demand stealth and strategy. There's also Silent Storm, and while you apparently can play it stealthily, it's very difficult to. Also, you've probably played this, but the original Far Cry is a good stealth game, even though it doesn't need to be played like one, hiding in the bushes has rarely been so fun.
