Does steam automatically update DX for my system?

I don't seem to remember doing any updates lately, but my version is the latest?

Yes Steam updates your DX, well, not exactly Steam, but the games you install. If you got a recent game, that had the most up to date version and since then there was no update, then technically Steam updates your DX, since it automatically installs everything that would normally run through the game installer, like DirectX, other drivers, Visual C++ updates and other things.
