So I can play Left4Dead 1 on Steam with no problems (albeit with non HD graphics setting) but every time I try to play L4D2 windows vista tells me "left4dead2.exe has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. " I I've tried Valve's game launching protocols in the game's properties menu such as "-safe" and "-autoconfig" and nothing seems to work. A buddy of mine has nearly identical laptop hardware as me (with the same rating) and he says he runs it just fine, so what gives? I bought the game on special ($6.79!) a while back and really wanna play it.

Check the integrity of the game cache files. Click on properties in the steam list of the game.

Yup, I have checked them. I've also done a defrag and uninstalled and re-downloaded it. No avail : (

2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, 320 gig hdd, 1280x800 screen res, I meet all the minimum specs except for the graphics card reqs. But "-safe" should let it run at the very least.

The video card is one of the most important aspect when looking into system requirements of a game. Even passing the Minimum requirement only will not give a smooth gaming experience.

Yeah it is. That's why I don't get why my buddy's laptop handles it and not mine. Its not the biggest deal in the world, but it will be a while before I have the resources and time to build a gaming desktop from scratch or buy one.

If you graphic chip is an Intel Express or Intel whatever. L4D2 is not going to work with it. Your buddy's Laptop probably has a Nvidia or an AMD video chip set.

If you see the name "Intel" Anywhere near a gpu descrpition, don't even consider buying the Laptop. Through previous experiences, I know that those GPUs are complete S***.

Now back to Bad Company 2 :)

Try running it as Administrator, I previously had the same problem but it works fine now.

I just helped another user here with a similiar problem. He could not get to loading screen at all and would crash/hang on the bink intro videos. If you're not even getting to the main menu try disabling the .bink videos by adding -novid to your set launch options like you did with the -safe. This took him directly to the loading screen and then the main menu without crashing.

Still have the link to the preview picture too, for clarity. Right click > Properties > Set Launch Options button.
