Steam crashing my computer! HELP

Help!

Steam is stuck at 0% and eventually logs in, when it does it continuously displays searching for game updates/media updates etc. I can't use my desktop because its using up 80K of memory in windows task manager - processes. Does anybody know what to do? Is it happening to anybody else?

If Steam continues to crash, try deleting all files and folders in the Steam directory except for steam.exe and the SteamApps folder

If you continue to have problems updating Steam, please exit from Steam, and then delete the following files from your Steam directory.

C:Program FilesSteamSteam.dll
C:Program FilesSteamSteamUI.dll
C:Program FilesSteamClientRegistry.Blob

i have an idea...could help or not, i'm not really sure

running your OS in Safe mode...after that uninstall/delete any Steam files
