Hi friends,

Recently, my friend bought COD Black Ops from Steam. He didn't want to download the game at that time so he skipped somehow and later tried to download it. He also bought Mass Effect 2 and I dont know but a few more games. He bought Half Life 2 a long time ago. So, when he tried to download Black Ops again by clicking the install button, after a few time, steam shows an error saying server is too busy. We tried several times but couldn't download it. Same way, we couldn't download ME2 and some other games but Half Life 2 and some other games could be downloaded. I want to know whether there is any simple solution to fix this problem.

Steam Content Server Stats can give you an idea of how busy the server you are connecting to is, and show you good options.

In the client, if you go to File > Settings > Downloads + Cloud, there is an option to change download region. You can use that to change to a region the stats page shows you is less busy. Most of the time I keep it at a region close to where I live, but during sales and other very busy times, I change that region a lot, since it makes a difference for download speeds.

Thanks. But I tried changing the servers several times but still, it shows 'server too busy to handle your request.' Any other option to fix this?

If the issue is caused on the server end there's nothing you can do on your end, unfortunately. Have you tried a server in an area where it's between midnight and morning? During their last summer sale, I was getting very good download speeds when I tried the Japanese servers (I'm in north-west US).

You might want to check with your ISP that everything is okay with your connection. Some providers will drastically lower your connection speed if you download above a certain amount, so make sure that's not what is happening. If it is, then you probably have to wait out the billing cycle until the throttle lifts.
