Your best bet is to reinstall it..
Technically speaking, Steam is a very impressive and successful system, it just has its hiccups every now and then.DGFreakTechnically it isn't. They don't properly test updates before releasing and their friends/favorites is constantly breaking. As for the person having problems remove everything but your games folder and the steam.exe. It will redownload itself. A few weeks ago they released a patch that caused me to have to do this fix.
only problem i have with steam is the SLOOOOOOW updates =(wicsterEspecially with dial-up as i have exprienced
[QUOTE="wicster"]only problem i have with steam is the SLOOOOOOW updates =(lionheart22Especially with dial-up as i have exprienced I dont know about slow updates for you guys. They d/l extremely fast for me, and whenever i download a game its at a speed of 500+k/b on cable. Steam is one of a kind. Its constantly improving and unique. Give it another year or two. I do like it so far though.

Works fine for me.... must be your PC. I hate it when people blame software companies for their own incompetance.

Troll. 1. They haven't abandoned there user base, I still get support occasionally when needed, plus there are the forums. 2. If you actually tried to fix it you would have been playing now instead of trolling. 3. You play them because it is still the superior gaming platform out there. Actually do some research, before shooting off your mouth making yourself look silly. It just doesn't work anymore? It doesn't launch - and it could be due to dozens of reasons...

i wish my experience w/ ea link was as trouble-free as you guys. although it has admittedly gotten better and better.
some problems i've had (and i fix my own problems):
ea link didn't update properly, and upon reinstallation of ea link, it would no longer recognize any games, so they had to be re-downloaded to be properly validated (i didn't keep a backup of the files, that's my fault).
the server side verification "hangs" on a regular basis for hours, preventing me from playing anything.
'install item' button wouldn't activate upon completed download.
Steam needs to release better patches for their games. I have a dual processor computer and Call of Duty 2 still runs like crap even though thier patches should of fixed this. Jagged Alliance 2 also has alot of bugs on steam.

......uh no, it's not my PC. If you haven't noticed others have had problems with Steam as well.
I hate it when people who have not encountered certain PC problems act like they're better that someone who has!
Steam has been a good experience for me. Any time that I have had problems, their message boards have given me the solutions. I think that either you do not know what you are doing or have a junkie computer full of porno viruses.:roll:roulettethedog
i had a junkie computer, but he's off the stuff now.

I'm not trolling a-hole, i'm expressing frustration with software that has given many besides myself hours of grief.
I have have had to fix steam issues several times since purchasing hl2 and episode 1, and it' getting old.
I make a living working on computers, i don't just sit around eating pizza playing games while mom and dad pay the bills.

Thats a shame, I have yet to have a single problem with Steam.. With my experience with no problems what so ever it is by far the best system to date. Aside from the legit problems most people I see complain about the systems have a outdated internet connection such as dial up.

thanks for your reply. When i first purchsed hl2 i had a horrible time, and had to reformat my HD just to get it to work.
It was working fine for the longest time, and i just read on their forums that they released a patch that many
are having problems with.
I don't have all the time in the world for this bs, i want to play the games i spent my money on.
It's like this: if it works for you great, but if you're having problems, you're stuck and help doesn't come that easily.
there's no middle ground and that's not good.

HAHAHA, are you trying to be tough??? just a little??? Didn't work. So you work for a living, congrats because what's funny here is I work for a living too, not in computers and I was able to get my one and only problem with steam fixed quick smart. Considering you supposedly work with computers, I find it even funnier you haven't been able to fix it if computers is your field of employment.Steam used to be a flaming pile of crap with some burnt Indian food piled on top of it, but over the years it has progressed very much. It is more streamlined, you can do more things, and the friends list actually sometimes works. It used to be when they were updating things (I'll use friends list as an example) they would be down for what was it 1 1/2 years? Steam used to be crap, but now its actually decent.SHARPSHOOTER25
Meh why do people even bother with that friends list anyways when Xfire is so much better and works for multiple games other then Steam related.

(my account starts saying I don't have CSS)
And in that case all I have to do is restart it.
Your problem is that you are a dumbass, stop blaming Steam for how much you suck with computers.

Steam is the ideal purchasing and downloading program ever developed for video games.
Its better than D2D, better than EA's, and all the rest of them.
They have automatic patch support, fast download times, modification support, and they expose gamers to independent games.
So you gotta wait 30 seconds before you play Halflife 2, big freaking deal. I have never had a problem with it, and millions of other people have never had a problem with it. Its only the vocal minority that really speaks up about it and makes it look like its a bad product.

Hey, I had a problem with Steam, and then went to the forum, searched for a few minutes, and fixed my problem. Thats another reason to like Steam; when they do have a problem, you can fix it.
