$89 for a digital copy of fallout vegas.

I live in aus. and the exchange is currently $1USD for $1Aus.

I could get a HARD COPY of vegas cheaper from another outlet.

It honestly makes me rage when developers charge you the same price and even more for a digital download.

Yeah, the Australia tax applies to a few games, but not too many. Steam is still fantastic for us Aussies.

That is indeed an issue with Steam that Valve needs to resolve. European customers get the same problem as far as I know. But aside from that, it's a fine service.

You think you're getting the shaft from Steam? Steam prices for european customers are all in EUR and for some strange reason the guys at Valve don't seam to realize that 1 USD doesn't equal 1 EUR. So if you live anywhere else than in the US, it's probably cheaper to get the game from retail or some other place than Steam - if we are talking about new releases, of course. I find it ironic that GOG is an european DD service and its prices are in USD for everyone regardless of where they are located, while Steam (a US service) makes europeans pay in EUR while people from the US get to pay in USD; it makes no sense to me.

But Steam's strong point doesn't lie in new releases, it lies in it's discount sales and that's really why the service is so popular. If they didn't have those frequent sales then the service wouldn't be nearly as popular and successful (because the new releases on Steam are often more expensive than their retail counterparts, and sometimes even when compared to other digital download services).

The cost is pretty much equal for me in NZ whether you buy it retail or not.

Blame the publisher. I got mine for $49 at retail in Australia.

If you are not in the US or in select few regions, you only go to Steam for its regular fantastic deals. Or you can also wait for the game prices to go down eventually, which they usually do except for a few (like MW2...lol).

Steam doesn't set prices, They get told what to put the price at. Blame the people who tell them the Price not Steam.

You can't compare it to GOG - good OLD games. Compare it to GamersGate, also European (based in Sweden), same prices. This is not a Steam issue, it's the publishers who are forcing different currencies in different markets. However, not everyone sticks to the $1 = 1€ rule. Some developers lower the Euro price, for example, if the game is $10, it's about 7,50€. Valve itself does it.

I know someone from australia, he says that the games you buy there have about the same price. Besides no, I know that in the US version of steam Fallout: NW costs 50$

That's weird, I live in Brazil, and I only get the US prices.

I didn't know Steam's prices could change depending on your region.:?

I can't speak for Aussie users but I love Steam here in Europe. And I personally think it is the best thing that happened to PC game.

If you'd preordered a few months ago, you'd have gotten it for $50USD.

Show your disdain with your wallet, just don't buy the game from Steam. Nothing is going to change for us Aussies if we keep buying these over priced games.

Buy early through steam or buy retail. I got FO:NV for $40 AUD -- can't really avoid steam with the retail copies either as it uses steamworks anyway. I find that the inflated games in the Aussie steam store are games where the retail copies use steamworks: Mafia 2, FM2011, Civ 5, FO:NV, Black Ops... Unless it is THQ who don't seem to inflate their prices. Whatevz, we will all be shinin' with the black Friday sales... Especially us Aussies, with the dollar and all.

Just a guess here but I think he means California.

I live in the US and I'll buy where ever it's cheapest. Just Cause 2 was 50us on Steam new and I got it from Newegg for 40us. This was when it first came out. Now I'm waiting to see who has Fallout NV cheapest over Black Friday.

i know what you mean and it really sucks to be a gamer in australia sometimes. I usually end up buying stuff off ebay so i can save money haha. This issue is more annoying for pc hardware though where everything in the US is at least a tenth cheaper than over here even though the currency that separates the prices of items over here and over there is virtually identical.

Cause I agree with the crap internet, but not the stupid ratings/laws and the stupid government.... US has bad laws and bad government too....
