I just installed the off-line upgrade from steam. i cannot start up HL2 in off-line. i get a message that you need to be connected to steam to start up this application. I thought this upgrade would allow you to play your games in the off-line mode. is there a way to play HL2 (and my other games) in off-line mode?

I played Half Life 2 offline just a few days ago. I was also able to play Tomb Raider anniversary offline. Sorry, mang. I don't know what the problem could be.

When I start Steam and I am not connected to the internet, Steam asks if I want to use offline mode. So I just hit yes, and I am able to play my games. This is how it should work for you too.

I have wireless internet, so I am always connected. I just installed this upgrade today when I started my steam application.

But if you are always connected why need offline mode?
