Well here is the deal, I work for best buy and I usually get between 8-10$ off of new released games like FO:NV, Dead Rising 2, etc.. And I also noticed these games are usually the same price as retail on Steam but I get my discount from work, but steam provides auto update, easy access etc... What would you do in my situation? Steam or Retail+discounts?

Go with the discount. Games are too expensive at release and it is not hard to update the game yourself.

I usually buy brand new games retail and use steam for their sales. Even without the discount that you get, I can usually find someplace to save $5-10 for new games.

Easy decision for me, I would choose retail. Its all about saving money for me and I prefer retail over Steam anyways

i like retails more. like having the game in my physical collection. also, most new titles update automatically anyways, or even if they don't, i don't consider it a hassle downloading the patch myself. i've only bought some indie titles and Valve titles through Steam.

I'd go retail, there's always that chance that Steam could crash and burn some day, having all of your games on that account... wouldn't work out well right? Having a disc, at least you still have your game. :O This is all hypothetical ofcourse. Discount+Disc > Full Price+Download

Steam is usually cheaper than retail here in Australia (with a few exceptions, like any of Activision's or 2K Games' games), so I almost never buy retail PC games anymore.

This. And some games like BFBC2, MOH, and others have updaters. Just double-click and done.

Well Fallout NV has steamworks integrated into it so there is very little difference between buying it retail and buying it via steam. The only difference being you get the game on disc so you don't have to download the whole lot from steam but essentially after that it behaves just like any other steam works game. I personally buy all games via steam.

The main reason I use steam is for convenience and cost, to get the game retail it would cost me more if you factor in travel costs. Now sure I could purchase retail via an online seller but the postal service in the UK is so crap that by the time the game actually gets delivered to me it is more than likely on a steam sale :P .

In your case since you can get a decent discount and since Fallout NV is a steamworks game then it makes sense to just get the retail version and save a bit of money in this day and age.

Clearly you aren't all about saving money since you would be better off waiting for steam holiday sales since they are 99% of the time the overall better deal when it comes to game sales. The fact that the trade in value for boxed PC games is very little now, I am not sure how you think buying at full price retail is "about saving money" I prefer boxed games as much as the next guy but if there is a game that I want and steam has it for 33% off, im grabbing it. Most of the time I am willing to wait for a good deal unless it is a huge game which doesn't happen often and I, like you, care about saving money. There is no denying Digital distribution is the easiest method to this.

New releases retail, I only buy Steam games when they're on sale.

I tend to only buy PC games from Steam that are under 10 bucks....
If it looks good I might go as high as 13 bucks.
