Hi all, im new here but this seems to be a really popular gaming forum so im going to take a shot that I might get some help here.

My problem is in regards to steampowered.com, and I know that that has nothing to do with this web site, but possibly someone out there can lend me some suggestions as to how I might proceed. Im sure someone out there has had this same problem before.

I went to steampowered.com in order to post in their forums so that I could get some help in trying to get my Steam account back. I have submitted a ticket to the steampowered support system, and received the automated response via e-mail with my reference number. I guess they don't have a huge staff there, and have read on other forums that it can take up to 2 weeks for them to get back to you. I decided to go into the steampowered.com forums in order to maybe get a little more specific information from users.

Well, when you sign-up on their forum they do the same thing Gamespot.com does. They send you a verification e-mail and make you click a link to complete the registration. However, steampowered.com forums also require a moderator to manually approve your account just so you can post! So now not only am I waiting on a response to my ticket, im waiting on a mod to find me in the queue and grant me access to post in the forum. Why do they think their forum needs to have such special security?

Has anyone else out there used the steampowere.com forums? How long does it take to get access? Any one with some form of response who has experience using that HORRIBLE web site, please reply and let me know im not alone. I've been waiting 3 days now to get approved in their forum, and I just feel lost.

Again, I know this isn't steampowered.com so im not here to waste people's time or to post topics that don't apply, but I didnt know where else to turn and thought someone out there could help ease my pain with an annecdote or suggestion. Thanks in advance for anyone who read this and doesn't think im an ass.

thank you thank you

I'm on the steam forums but I registered a long time ago and I don't remember it taking that long. As for the tickets I got a response after a week so expect that tlong, especially if it's a hijacking as they can take longer. I know this isn't an excuse but they are doing a lot of other stuff atm, making the orange box but also getting ready for the steam community features coming soon. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long.

Hi Nutcracker, thanks for the reply.

I can understand if they're busy programming, but they must have specific staff "community managers" whos sole job is to maintain the online community, answer questions, etc. I doubt those guys are very involved in approving site updates or testing and debugging Half life.

Nope, it wasn't a hijacked account just I hadn't re-installed Steam since I started playing WoW, and now 3 years later I don't remember my password, and I don't have access to the hotmail account I used for Steam. Of course, Microsofts support sucks D#$% so its been difficult trying to answer 3 different security questions to an account I opened 6 years ago.

Its all my fault, and if I had just written everything down id be fine. At least your reply makes me not feel so alone. That steampowered.com site is one of the worst sites ive ever seen, but that is a topic for a different forum.

Yeah I do think their support could be a bit more prompt. I hope you get your account back or find a way to log into your existing account in order to recover you games.

I still haven't been approved by their moderators. What a stupid idea to have a manual activation process.

That's wierd. I re-installed HL2 after a few years away and couldn't remember my password. I didn't have any issue getting a new one. I was up and playing again in under 1/2 hour. But it could be an issue if you don't remember your security questions and don't have your account e-mail anymore.

I've got a joke.

What has more bugs? A bee hive or Steam.

Steam, really just sucks. If it didn't have so many bugs, people won't hack it, and steal accounts. Thats why Steam is so uptight when it comes to accounts, and paaswords. Valve, Microsoft, and EA have the worst technical support in the industry. Blizzard and NCsoft, in my opinion are the best.

Yeah that's the main problem that its attached to an old e-mail address. That part is my fault, but their web site sucking mad D@#$ is theirs. It took me like 7 clicks to get to the "submit a ticket" part, and that this is so hidden its funny.

I really like the vision they have, but their implementation is bad. I can't count how many times clicking a tab or doing some operation within the Steam client crashed my CS game.

I appreciate your replies guys. Its getting lonely waiting to get access to the official Steam forum.

They delete hotmail accounts if they become inactive, no? If they do, all you need to do is remake the hotmail account, it can have a different password and everything. Then open up steam, click I forgot my password, type in the email address and they should send you the password.

If that didn't help, I'm sorry. I dunno what to tell you, it sucks that Valve has horrible customer support =/

Doesnt really matter anyway you wont find much help on the forums. I had my account jacked once. Took a week or two but they eventually answered my ticket and fixed it. If you bought the disk at the store, you will probably have to prove the account by sending a picture of the cdkey. If you bought online theyll verify purchase info. Either way youll get it back, its just a matter of waiting. At first I felt kinda crappy about getting it hijacked, and seeing all the other people who are losing their passwords and getting jacked, but hey, thats the downside to their system. Its expected so they need to deal with it

and to the dude with the graphics problems. What is your computer specs? Video card? RAM? What resolution do you have it set at and what quality settings

You might want to make a new post since people probably aren't going to look in here to answer a technical support issue. Good luck to you too.

Hi Sub and bl4,

Well, funny enough Microsoft actually contacted me! I sent in a contact request, got a reply in 2 days, and they sent me a list of questions to answer to verify my identity. I was frikin amazed that Microsoft actually didn't lose me in the mix! Wow, amazing.

Yeah my hotmail account was not deleted because yea I did try to recreate it, and the support lady who sent the e-mail said my address was indeed in their system. Amazing.

Well here is what I did find on the Steam forums. Some Valve employee replied to someone's post from last week who said "help with account retrieval" The Valve employee replied and said "send me a PM with your ticket number" A day later the original poster replied and said "Thanks i got my account back!"

So im optimistic that I can contact this Valve employee who helped him and have him direct his attention to my ticket. Im sure they probably get as many illegitimate requests as real ones, but perhaps this Valve employee will believe me since im so forthcoming.

Yep, I bought Half-life, CS, Half-life 2, and Source. I scanned my HL2 and CS keys, couldn't find the other ones but that should be enough to associate me with my account.

thanks for all the replies guys. I like this forum, no flamers.

Hey guys thanks for your interest.

I did get contacted, and they are being very helpful. Their site still sucks monkey nuts but once they replied the first time, they're being pretty quick about their subsequent replies.

Ill let you know if I get it back.

Bam I got my account back!

Their support is good, but their site is probably the worst i've seen for such a popular service. Im a web developer and producer, and that is the most muddled convoluded and scary site i've ever seen.

just dropping in to update you, thanks guys

HELP! I'm on STEAM!

Ditto all the problems; so maybe somebody here can help me with my problem.

Video in Half life 2 (main game): Right after the intro, as soon as I get control of my character in game space, all around me I see the normal expected walls and concrete of the terminal, BUT I also have 20-30 fully 3-D Large Red artifacts all over, high and low, moving or at least revolving and they are all the same: the word "ERROR"! No matter where I move in the game world they are all around, different sizes, attached to partially visible objects or npc's,

Video card: Nvidea Geforce 8300 GT 512 M ram, running on quad core with 3 G ram on a 22-inch Dell flat panel monitor.

Any ideas???
