Does Steam charge you when you preorder a game or do they wait until release before htye do?

There isnt a limited amount of copies, you pay the full price upfront and you can download it before release. You have to wait for the release date to play it though. It's a good idea if you have a slow internet connection so you're not downloading when everyone else is.Frenzyd109

The Files are loaded gradually in the days before release, I think its to prevent early release, thats what Football Manager 2010 did for me anyway.

There are some files that are missing in the pre-load until the release date.Pvt_r3d

I think they offer a preload depending on how many prepurchases they get.
