I have seen some people whose accounts got hacked and they never got them back, I recently sold my ps3 and now I have 350$ to spend on pc gaming, and I want to invest on pc games. The question is: "can I invest crazy money on steam, or do I risk getting hacked and losing all my stuff?" Can't steam retrieve my account if I lose it somehow?

Edit: I've read that some people got stolen, and the robbers used hacks on their accounts and steam banned them. That's rough. What to do in this case?

i've been using steam since 2009 and never got hacked, simply don't give your username/password to anyone and don't login to site that cliam to give you 100s of games for free and you only have to enter your username/password and even if you got hacked you'll retrieve it

I've been member of Steam for over 4 years now other then keep your computer secure not fall for phishing scams you will be safe as can be. They just added extra security called Steam Guard. I would buy what you really want now with some money but remember the weekly, spring and xmas sales are pretty sick for picking up games cheap.

It's impossible to get hacked now, because of Steam guard, even if, like people that got their account stolen, you have viruses that steal your log in information or you just give out your information because a website gives you free games if you log in on your Steam account. The only way to get your account stolen is to give your log in information to both your Steam account and email account (directly or indirectly through trojans and such), in conclusion, yes, it's worth investing and yes it's extremely safe.

I have never got hacked in the year i have used it, plus with steam guard its even harder now. In the future you will be able to use intel protection tech in the sb, and completely lock your steam account to that pc

I had my account hacked a few years ago, how I don't know, but as a previous user said, thanks to steam guard stealing an account is impossible now.

Been on steam since steam started (oh man the lolfest back with cs 1.5-1.6 transition to steam days)... Never been hacked. Those that do get hacked are ones that click links hacked accounts send to the friends list, accidentally give off information do to trojan/keyloggers on computer etc, or are just naive. As long as you never hit a link anyone messages you (copy paste to a web browser)and keep your computer clean, you will never get hacked.

You can connect your steam account with your email so it cant get hacked.

They people who get hacked are not connecting them, and going onto fake websites.

I've been a member of Steam since 2006. I've played a huge number of games within that time never been hacked. If you don't be stupid then you are perfectly safe.

Used Steam since '04 and not once have I lost my account. Someone once tried, though, and I almost fell for it, but a quick password change fixed that.

Just be wary of links and stay away of sites that could have viruses and the like.

I've been using Steam for about 3 years now, had my account stolen once. Got it back easily, just sent a picture of CD Keys I had for Orange Box and CS and they reset the password for me. Took a few hours.

I actually have two accounts. I guess it's my way of not putting all my eggs in one basket.

I've been on Steam since 2005 and haven't been hacked once. It's all about being careful really, don't trust suspicious links. SteamGuard will protect you anyway and even if it's somehow hacked, always remember the former advice.

I hated Steam back in the day, but now I think its one of the best distribution systems around. There are folks on this forum with 100+ games on their list.

As long as you have a cd key to one of your retail games that you bought or your credit card info you used to buy whatever on that account. You will almost always get it back.
