Steam updating help

Hi I just brought the orange box and for the install it made me install steam. Steam is trying to update but every time it does it just gets to a certain point and freezes or disappears all together. Iv tried again and again many time but nothing is working. Does anybody have any suggestions or reasons why it is not working that would be great thanks.

theirs alott to download for all those games but the steam client should work fine, try restarting updating drivers etc what ae your specs, try the support at steampowered.com good luck

Make sure you don't have any IP filtering software enabled when running Steam (such as PeerGuardian2). Your firewall may be blocking it as well.

What's your internet connection speed? I had a horrible experience with Steam in the past but once I upgraded my internet to a faster connection, it's been working great.

It still isn't perfect, but I had the same problems as you described before.

well i live in New Zealand and we have some of the worse internet speeds in the world it sucks.
