Taken from Steam's Big Picture page

And.. Lots of prices on games are slashed: CLICK HERE.

"Relax, it's Steam"

"Why give up your games, your friends, and all that you love about Steam when you play games in the living room? With Big Picture, weve reformatted Steam for use with your TV and game controller, so you can enjoy your Steam games from the comfort of your couch."

They even had a controller made especially for Steam big picture. I know some of us already play or have played their PC games on an HDTV, but this time it has been reformatted and designed for use on the big screen.

1. Will you be switching to the big TV? Controller or Keyboard/Mouse?

2. Naw, I'll stick with my PC desktop setup and my comfy chair.

I don't game on couches, but it looks good and I'd prefer it like that...if it actually worked, it's extremely inefficient, if they'd adapt the games part and turn it into the new and improved "grid view", now that would be something worth mentioning.

This was exactly what I needed before I moved house as I had my PC hooked up to my 50" Viera in the living room. It was a struggle to see some of the writing on steam but now I have no use for it as I have a proper PC setup now :)

Pretty much what he said. I don't really see the point in it though it does look pretty on a big screen. Doesn't add any new features just a new layout and UI. Also you can't access your computers other features while it is up.

It's pointless. It's nice to use it at first for the novelty but it becomes far too impractical for normal consistent use.

I like the UI and the typing flower thing are pretty cool. Still doesn't do anything for the awkwardness of gaming on a big screen + couch for most games, though. I doubt they were trying to convert core PC gamers.

Its a fantastic setup (like the UI) for people who use there tv and or 360 controller. Its set up easy to use, and the game icons and steam overlay for Big Picture is a great option to have. If you dont use tvs much then this is not really a feature for you. But for people who like to game on there PC this is fantastic.

For some gamers just coming from consoles to pc, this type of thing and stardocks aps really can go along way.

You could do that on XBOX Live for years now, what's so new about this? The point is you shouldn't own a PC for gaming if you prefer gaming on the couch with a gamepad. Might as well save yourself $1000's and just buy a $300 console.

If I wanted to play on a couch with a controller I'd play console games, but the thing is I play mostly first person games.

except consoles suck.... it's a nice feature for when i wanna quickly and easily move from the desk to the couch for a controller friendly game. i've just got my hdmi split to the tv and computer monitor. also my wife likes to watch games and she always complains when i get pc games because there is no comfortable way for her to watch when i'm at the desk. and anything that makes it more simple to play games on the tv is a plus, why is everyone complaining? not like they are charging for it...

You don't understand PC gaming. PC gaming is all about multiple options. No one ever said it had to be limited to a desk with a mouse and keyboard.

Agreed. I've yet to try and use a gamepad on the pc and not have it work. Granted I'd only use it for games that are better off with one (which are few and far between).

It's good for being family/friend friendly I guess. Regular Steam UI is still more time efficient to use.

Which leads me to my main question: Why would I ever use such a useless feature?

if i used a controller for my PC and wanted to put the keyboard and mouse to one side while navigating then i would certainly use big picture. but i don't at the moment. but the PC is about options and choice so its nice to have it there as i may use it down the line. i have played around with it though and its a good start. it still feels a bit like a work in progress though. parts of it seem to be only the usual steam pages embedded in big picture mode which is not ideal. but its only a V1 release so i am sure valve will be listening to feedback and working on improvements.

PC gaming is not about choice, this isn't an abortion clinic. PC gaming is about being better than console gamers.

Well, it sure isn't about looking smarter. You may want to refer back to your English class about parallelism before you go on about being better than other people.

That's a feature of PC gaming. That's not what it's all about. Then again I wouldn't ask some random scrub on a forum what is PC gaming. I would ask the grandfather of modern PC gaming what he thinks: John Carmack. He says the PC is not the lead platform anymore. And he's right, it's the consoles and their subpar hardware that is leading the way for the economically feasible future of gaming.

Cool for all the people that prefer a TV and couch (which according to some threads on system wars, were a lot), but I prefer my chair which is comfier, my 1440p, and easy access to my desktop applications.

Does BPM crash for anyone else? I can't get past the startup sound before Steam takes a sh*t and locks up.
