Strange... Low HDD space is smoother

i have 160gb hdd

whenever my hard drive space is low like around 10gb my computer seems smoother. when its around 29gb it seems slower.

any idea?

I'm only guessing I dont really know for sure but maybe its doing something like when its low its only uses ram, and when you have extra hard drive space it's using virtual memory a little too much, I dont know? never had this problem.

Did you try defragging the hard drive at times?

Most likely because data is being stored more closer to centre of the platter, therefore the disk needs less spin time to access data.

Is that aplicable to a 10,000RPM? Cause I used to have 4gb left on my 150gb and I just transfered all my music over to my 250gb and I did notice stuff is not as smooth but barely... I have 34gb left on my 10k rpm now

Well a hard drive is a hard drive, so I don't why see why it would be any different for a 10K drive.

Things should change once solid state drives become more common/bigger.
