Alright all,

Looking to try and get into strategy games, anyone recommend a suitable one for someone new to this genre. Im thinking Age of Empires 2.

what about aoe 3 ? also considering sw:empires at war, warcraft 3 and black & white 2. not too fussed about graphics, just looking for one thats quite accessible.

Those are all pretty accessible and fun. Also consider Red Alert 2 and Battle for Middle Earth 1+2

I've got a younger brother that loves Rise of Nations, and were running an old bargain priced computer. You might want to give that a shot or the sequel if you can find it. Empire Earth and its sequels are also pretty good.

Empire Earth 1 and 2 are good, avoid 3.

Depends the style of game your looking at. For a more classic look or style of RTS (which consists of base building and actually building your army) then i would say AoE or a Blizzard game. If you want more battle and less resource gathering game then go for BFME or some of the newer ones.

Now i haven't played a lot of recent RTS and i've never played a C&C game so i can't comment on those, but some good ones that would be cheap are AoE 2(i would suggest the 2nd one i just like it more), Warcraft 2 or 3 and Starcraft, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, and BFME (1 or 2). Of course you can always go C&C, but those games shouldn't be too hard to get into.

Personally i think Blizzard games have been easy to get into so i would suggest those first out of anything.

RA2 was my first strategy game, and the single player is very accessible for begginners, I was playing at the age of 7. However, even now, after 8 years of on and off strategy game playing, I still cant do anything online on any strategy game, because people are so good.

Buy the first decade of C&C, its only 20 dollars and you get 6 Strategy games + their xpacs + a really fun FPS based in the same universe. Its the most accessible RTS for me, but Ive only played a few.

The majority of the great rts's can be good for beginners.. There is only two that I would suggest not to play as the first rts.. That being Warcraft 3 and Company of Heroes.. Amazing games, but the way they are played is hard to get used to at first.
