I know it's supposed to be a great shooter, but I've found it hard to get into Stalker shadow of Chernobyl, I've played a couple of hours, and while it's very atmospheric, it's not sucking me in. Feels like a lot of wandering around for not very compelling reasons.

Should I stick at it?

If yoiu don't like it you don't like it. I personally think Stalker looks dumb and would never buy it.

It is a survival game. If you like FPS at all, I think you could like it. It's rough at first because you don't have good gear and you do kinda pointless stuff, such as killing wild animals for people. A huge thing though, EXPLORE. It pay's off incredibly. If you really don't like it though, I would give it a shot using the Oblivion Lost mod. It basically makes the game realize it's full potential. I highly suggest you stick with it, because once you really get into it, it's one of the best games you'll ever play IMO.

that is true for me too, it was ok the first 2-4 hours, but once you get into it and start getting the hang of things and knowing your way around, and start doing missions and putting the story together its actually quite fun... i like it. ___________spoiler_____________ i beat it and got all 3 endings, it was a good game, especially for the price.. in my opinion.

Yup, it is a big game. So was Operation Flashpoint - maybe much too big. All that running through 5km of empty field, may have added realism but got really tired for me.

I agree with you on Operation Flashpoint. It may sound cool running a few miles to get to the last chopper leaving the island, but it was really un-needed. Especially with tanks and like 5 platoons of guys looking for you

If you play STALKER with the Oblivion Lost mod it lets you drive vehicles which helps a lot in getting around the map. That mod really makes the game more enjoyable.

Yup, same here. If you dont like it, do not force yourself to like it. It's okay.

I too was struggling to get into STALKER and I never actually got into STALKER but I did get quite far until when I had to format my PC and completely forgot about to backup my game saves and that's when I said **** it, won't be playing this game again. Either way dude, if you don't like it, you don't like it and don't have to play it and yes, like most people I like to get my moneys worth but in this case, I think I will let this one slide.

With games, music, and movies - the more deeper and complex they are, the harder they are to get into. But once you get into them, they are that much more rewarding. If everyone based their opinion on something they didn't even fully experience - everyone would be listening to pop music, watching popcorn action movies, and playing The Sims. Personally, I never got into Stalker at first. But after a second go I realized the game was ****ing awesome.

I myself didnt like it too... Its fairly (understatement) buggy and the fact that they were working on this game for years doesent mean they couldnt sort out a few bugs. Its also too damn ahrd to aim and have a fun shootout. Its just not my style...

The first half of the game involves mostly survival and exploration, the second half more shooting and linear action. If you were looking for a run-of-the-mill shooter with linear levels and huge action all the time then STALKER isn't for you.

Thanks for all the replies, I may go back to it a later date and try the Lost Oblivion mod, I have a feeling I could get more out of it if i explore more.

What surprised me was that for a game I'd heard so much about it didn't blow me away to start with. I presume if you stick with it, it will pay off.

The game gets much better when you get a decent assault rifle & some ammo. I recommend using the mod that enables you to access a stash without a PDA entry.

Yeah it definintely takes some time to really see why the game is so great, and it definitely grows on you. It also helps if you can run it at the highest graphical settings, cause the graphics are a little dated so they look pretty bad on the lower settings. It's still enjoyable either way.

The points you make are accurate, but is sounds like his major problem is a lack of direction, so I don't think exploring right now would be best for him. I'd suggest just sticking to the main campaign. That way you will progress to the more interesting(read dangerous) parts of the game and maybe it will finally sink it's irradiated claws into you.

its a good game in my opinion, and after a while it drew me into its world... i loved stalker though am very strict on how i rate games, and i would give it about a 7.5 out of 10, they have to be real good in order to get 8 or higher... for me.....

that being said this game or anygame is not for everyone... so if you just cant get into it dont try to force yourself. but if you want to give it another shot and see if you can get a little further in it to see why i think it is such a good game... then more power to you... it was fun... was kinda short i expected it to be a little longer i guess due to the open ended aspect...

but dont force yourself to like anygame, like something get into something because you like it... most dont anymore.. most rely on peers and all to tell them what they like i mean.. seriously look at music, that is a prime example....

All games are hit and miss...

I liked STALKER but despised ME and AC...and I really tried to play those two games.

But like someone said if after a few hours of playing and it doesn't " get" to you....move on.

That's good advice. But I do advise thoroughly exploring the camp you initally start in. I won't tell you why, but it's well worth it.

Continuing to play the game as it was meant to be - that is without mods and Oblivion whatever - I don't see your enjoyment of the game increasing. It will probably only get worse because the final stages of this game in particular are overlong and tedious and highly generic - making it feel just like a standard shooter once you get the more powerful firearms.

Just because over people praise this game doesn't mean you have to feel obliged to say its great!!

OFP is one of the greatest FPS/Military Simulators to this day. Problem with kids now-a-days is that they have a little attention span so they can't play good games like OFP, ArmA and Stalker.
