Hello all, I'm having more than a bit of trouble installing PC games, I'm spending days at a time trying to get them running and I'm thinking something somewhere or a combination of things are causing me problems. Is there a program I can run or something that will inform me if things that I need that are missing from my computer like .net framework, drivers etc. Thanks

Edit, sorry about the spelling in the title, my dog trod on me as I was posting!

I doubt a program like this would exist. As most games will check your system before or while installing the game, to see if everything that is required is installed if not, it normally installs it. What games are you having problems with?

Try to install a game and go to control panel > Admin tools > event viewer. See what errors appear and report back

Thanks for that, I didn't think it would exist but due to the problems I've had I thought I'd ask as there seems to be programs for everything these days. My current problem is Batman Arkham Asylum, I posted a thread on it earlier in the PC games thread. But I've had problems with evrything other than three games which are Ghostbusters, Crysis and a Mortimer Beckit game for my nephew.

I tried all day yesterday with borderlands getting various errors, I ended up solving that one by installing Windows 7 service pack 1, and by ignoring the wizard options and doing what I thought was right.

With Batman I run the installer and the batman picture appears after I select English, then when I press install game it states that the specified file was not found?...here's the link to the thread so I don't get into trouble for opening two threads for the same subject, which I didn't, I just thought that there may have been like a pack of software that's commonly used for gaming that I could get like codecs.

I will run the Event viewer now and post back.

Thanks.

Then I'm assuming it's just the installation of games that you're having problems with and not running the games themselves?

Well, on a more basic level: are you sure theres nothing wrong with your Optical Drive? Loose cables can be more common than you think and can create issues when trying to use disks. Or perhaps the drive is getting old and needs a replacement? You could try swapping out the drive with a spare (or temporarily from another PC) if you have one to see if you still get the same issues.

It could be the drive I suppose, it's a new external one, a Samsung. Maybe it dosen't spin fast enough or something, I think I read something in the Batman readme about speeds. I'm just updating it's drivers and software. Can I copy the information off the disc onto my hard drive and install it that way?...

A question, I know youve stated your HW to be above the min specs but what are your specs? CPU? Amount of RAM? GPU?

Also what happens if you open the cd by double clicking it in my computer, locate the .exe file. Right click it, go to compatability tab and choose xp sp3. And try to run it like that.
