I'm building an AMD component based PC with 1600 RAM, a Phenom X4 965 CPU and a Radeon HD 5850. However, I'm currently stuck deciding on which mobo I should buy. These are the two I'm deciding between:

Asus M4A89TD PRO/USB3

Asus Crosshair IV Formula

I currently have the crosshair in my cart as I talked to an Asus tech and was told that it will OC somewhat better than the M4A89TD and since I'm a first time builder I thought it might be good to stay as safe as possible when I decide to OC. Plus, it has a few more bells and whistles but do you guys think I will need the $17 upgrade for this mobo? I dont mind paying it, but saving money isnt ever a bad thing either.

Thanks for the help.

Well, as far as I can see, you're pretty much paying for the added aesthetics and included SupremeFX sound card, and maybe a bit better stability in terms of NB clock and vcore. The sound card is really the only thing that you would notice a better performance in, but if you don't have a good set of speakers/headphones, then that point is pretty much moot. And unless you are really pushing your overclock past 4.0ghz, then I don't see how the M4A89TD Pro could really affect your overclock that much, as it is a pretty robust board as well.

In any case, if you do have some good audio equipment, and really plan to squeeze every last ounce of performance out of your CPU (maybe 100-200mhz higher than the competition, which really isn't that much), then go with the Crosshair. Otherwise, get the M4A89TD Pro.
