Hey guys, my friend said the other day about him wanting just a subwoofer for his music, he currently just uses his TV speakers and he said to me he was going to buy a subwoofer so he uses his TV speakers as a stereo output with a subwoofer, i didn't think you could do this which made him unsure, so can you actually do this? Cheers :P.

It depends on the tv. If audio still comes out the tv speakers when cables are hooked up to audio out jacks, then yes, it'll work. Stick some cables in there and see if that's the case.

Far from the best idea, but surely possible - depending on his TV.

I don't think there are any HDTV's that has a sub-out. If it has then you're good to go :D

the biggest problem is, im sure the power of the sub will out-do the TV speakers. It would work, but he should consider some seperate speakers as a future purchase.

Most subs have more than just an LFE input.

Would work if the sub accepted line level L/R inputs, but you would probably have a huge gap in bass as the TV speakers probably don't go low enough to cover from the upper end of the sub's limit (usually most subs do not do so well above 120 Hz and many people thin that subs should be set to x-over at 80 other wise the bass is localizable above that point.
