I always played World of Warcraft but I'm starting to get bored of it and I won't renew subscription next month. I feel like I need a new MMO but this time I want a free 2 play in order to save some money. I like fantasy/dragons and that kind of thing. I like variety. Variety on monsters to ride, monsters to kill, places to go..

Check on MMOHut.com's list, you can check by rating which one are considered the best by the community there. Look on their youtube channel for video reviews concerning those games in that list.

I would suggest Vindictus, it's different than most, in that it doesn't get boring and the combat is actually good (fast action, gore and blood). The only one i used to play frequently was League of Legends half a year ago, mad fun and easy to get into, each match is different.

Try Lord of the Rings Online if you're a fan of the books at all.

Lineage 2 has gone f2p if you are looking for a good PvP based game. Don't let the name scare you, the 'grind' has turned into a cakewalk with quests and instances. They butchered the game when they added instances and stuff, but it still shines during sieges and mass PvP battles over world bosses.

Another vote for Lord of the Rings Online. I tried a few different F2P MMOs before settling on LOTRO, and it's the best one I found. At least for my preferences. :)

This. If you want to have fun for several hours (because yet again this is one of the many AKA all the F2P MMOs that suck) try Vindictus.

Grinding is part of the MMO experience. It goes hand and hand. The only games that diverge from that expect you to make multiple characters and then your still spending time leveling them up. Thats kinda of the nature of the genre is it not?

If the developers think the same as you do, no wonder the games sucks that much. MMO is about playing with other people and having fun, not acting like a robot.

I'm kinda confuse with some members above. Grinding is part of the MMO experience just as playing with other people and having fun. I do agree with nokia that by its nature MMO's are about grinding just as masterdrat statement that its about doing it in a way that is fun with friends or by yourself (Kinda like tribes ascend having omg amount of hours to get XP but doing so that keeps members wanting to play with friends in matches for days) . Man, people look to be getting really testy about it.

This was true maybe three years ago,not now. LOTRO, AoC, DCUO, APB offer more quality content than many full scale games out there. Just don't spread misinformation, if you haven't really tried any of the games.

LOTRO, AoC, DCUO, APB

I tried all of those.

  • LOTRO: Not bad, but I don't really feel connected to the game like I felt with World of Warcraft
  • AoC: Don't like it, not one bit
  • DCUO: Better than what I expected. I still play this game once and then.
  • APB: Never had the chance to try it, since they add it on Steam I might give it a try.

Maybe for the fans of the lore, nope, not a chance, I doubt you're serious with this one...Big Rigs has more to offer than APB.

It's one of the best theme park MMO's, maybe the genre isn't for you? Doesn't make it a bad game.

At the time I was also playing WoW, so I lost interest in LOTRO - it just seemed like it wanted to be WoW.

Also, the "Buy a premium account now!" messages got old after the 50th time.

How much time have you spent in the game? It's not very good, but good definitely. As for the others. I've played WoW for years. I would put AoC > WoW=LOTRO, yes I'm serious.

On LotRO? about 9-10 hours, gameplay wasnt that different from what I got used to in WoW and I'm not a fan of the lore, not one bit.

As for the others, AoC around 3 hours it was just terrible besides the graphics, DCUO at a friend for about 5 (terrible at best, not even being a fan of DC helps with this one) and I said you weren't serious with mentioning APB, even among mediocre F2P games, APB is a special case (it's so bad it deserves a prize for being bad, I can't even imagine how bad it was before it got "good" when everyone said it's terrible).

Honestly, I found it a better use of my time than playing full priced games like KZ3 or DA II. But you know how they say that anything can be fun as long as it's with friends. Maybe it wasn't the best example, but I still stand that there are very fun F2P games and MMO's with very high production values.More and more are going to follow in 2012. Some of my most anticipated games of 2012 are actually F2P.

I played through the first 20 levels or so and I will say it's interesting, but no way in hell would I have paid a subscription. In fact as far F2P MMOs go it's probably one the most restrictive I've tried.
