Looking for an new LCD to hookup to my 360. Would like to stay under 40" due to space limitations. Which is also the reason going LCD...for its small footprint.

Anyone make any recommendations on what brand you currently have? Are you happy with it? I was looking at the samsungs, but have come across the VIZIO brand. Can get the 32" for $699 or the 37" for $899 vs the samsung which is at $1250 for a 32" or $1600 for a 40".

I have heard good things about the vizio, only thing that concerns me is the low 1600:1 contrast ratio.

Oh, dont need 1080p at this time. 720p/1080i is ok.

Thanks

Well, I'm not sure where you're getting that 1600:1 contrast ratio is low. The highest contrast ratio I've seen on a LCD HDTV for under $1000 was a 23'' Samsung at 3000:1 contrast ratio. 1600:1 seems to be the high-middle end of contrast ratios for most TVs including upper end units. I went with the Olevia 232V 32'' LCD HDTV and I spent $600 (actually $500 after a $100 instant savings from comcast) Anyway, it's normally a $900 unit, and Circuit City is now selling it again for that price. The $600 price was a special they ran for a week with $400 instant savings. Even so, I really like the unit and it's a great buy. Not to mention it has 1 VGA, 1 Component and 1 HDMI so there are plenty of options and you can even use the TV as your PC monitor. Hope that helps some.

More misinformation...Good grief. Some LCD manufacturers use what's called dynamic contrast ratio's which produces inflated contrast ratios while other manufacturers use the industry standard static contrast ratio. When you see number like 3000:1 I guarantee you they are using the inflated dynamic contrast ratio formula. a 3000:1 dynamic contrast is equivalent to anywhere between a 1000-1600:1 static contrast ratio. Samsung and Sony are notorious for doing this. It makes them look good until someone does their homework. A 1600:1 contrast ratio is fantastic for an LCD display.

Unless I'm misinformed, Visio uses the Samsung panels in their LCD TV's.  Basically you are getting a Samsung TV at an off-brand price.  However, you might notice a difference in picture.  You should go to the store and check them out rather than look at them online.

I had the 32'' vizio. Got it for $699 at costco. I was eventually unhappy about the picture quality though and returned it. Just recently I bought the 32'' Sony XBR2 for $1600 and although its more than double the price of the vizio, I feel that it is also double the quality. The picture on the sony is OUTSTANDING and makes the vizio look like SDTV.

Thanks for the explination on the contrast. That is good to know.

I plan to use this tv for mostly gaming and maybe some general tv watching but thats it. Its not going to be my everyday tv. I already have a 51" Toshiba for that.

Anyone else have any suggestions on other brands I might look into. What brand/model TV are you using? Did everyone spend $1500 for the sony? Anyone else have experience with the vizio? are you happy with it?

How bout, sharp or panasonic?

If you don't mind shopping online for one, I'd suggest the Westinghouse 37w3. It's a 37" 1080p LCD. Technically it's a monitor since it doesn't have a built in tv tuner, but it's an amazing tv/monitor. It has every type of input possible, amazing picture, and can usually be found for under 1000, around the 900 range.

Link to another forum with a gigantic thread worshipping this monitor:

You can get a great 32" Sharp for about $900 Look for the LC-32D42U. Great brand, and pinnacle picture quality.
