Well I loved the first one, and I do not mind the dumbing down I have read about but what concerns me is the community.

Will there be people playing even after starcraft is released? I played the demo and enjoyed it :) I just dont want to buy another paperweight.... A lot of the hardcore fans I know hate this game and will not buy it simply because the demo was so bad. I am wondering if there will be an actual community for it....

EDIT: Supcom 2! forgot to put 2 in title.

Hmm I haven't played online, but when I did open up the game browser just for kicks, there were quite a few matches going on. As for how busy the game is going to be after SC2 is released that's anybody's guess. As for the game, I enjoy it. I'm enjoying it more than the first one to be honest. Runs better, and the campaign is actually entertaining. For every game made you'll have purist types that will complain about how the first was better. Sort of like all the whining about Diablo 3's art direction, etc. Some people will never be happy, so I wouldn't read too much into it. If you don't care that they changed the resource management, and that the battles aren't as massive as the first, then you'll enjoy the game. Honestly, even though you can't have as large of battles as the first, the battles in SupCom 2 are still leaps and bounds larger than any other recent RTS, especially after the wave of squad based tactics RTS games.

If you really want to know if the community will be decent then imo you should wait another month or so and ask again, but it's a pretty fun and entertaining game, it's not as tactical as Sup Com 1, but it definitely has a great campaign compared to the first, good voice acting and overall, from the start of the game till the middle and a little over that it's a better game, but the ending was much better in Sup Com 1, because of the larger scale, more units and because experimentals were real monsters unlike SC 2. But overall, considering the flaws and strong points, it's just as good as SC 1, casual, less tactical, but more exciting and with a decent singleplayer. I'd say get it because I doubt it'll have a big community, but if multiplayer is a deciding factor for you then you should wait a month at least, to see how much people play it after a while.

This is what is putting me off :( if it was released last year I would have had confidence at least a small dedicated community would form. But with starcraft 2 around the corner later this year.... I have a feeling it will die.

I don't think it will die, even some obscure RTS games still have an online community. The fact that it also is tied to Steam with Steamworks will insure it still has some activity going on. But Starcraft 2 is going to be where the action is at for sure. But, who knows when its coming out. Maybe summer, maybe fall..

By dedicated community, if you mean previous SupComm players, your not going to find them here in this game.

This game is being shunned by them for dumbing down the game.
