Last month I just bought Ipad Pro 10.5 + smart keyboard and pen instead of surface pro mostly because the fanless i5 is still dual core (and ipad pro 10.5 benchmarks show it rivals surface pro i7 model which is impressive).

my question is:

how long (1...2.? years) do you think we gotta wait for surface pro to finally get a real core i5 (I meam quad core instead of the actual dual core)?

Because honestly the moment they release a fanless quad core i5 on a super thin tablet pc then it will be (in my opinion) an historical moment to humanity in terms of tecnology advancement/evolution.

What you guys think?

Also... is it worth to get the fanless i5 surface pro now (in your opinion)?

Thank you for your time :)

If it weren't for the high price, I would have gone for the Surface Pro i5 8GB RAM 256GB SSD. I got 20% on the new iPad pro though so I bought it last week =D

Coffee lake or Cannonlake and then we might see a real 4 core in the Surface Pro.

I was looking at buying a Surface Pro recently, but the cheeky sods make you buy the pen and keyboard separately. I thought 'ok fair enough, what's that, an extra £20?' Actually more like £100!! How can they not sell it all together?

Because they need to make money somehow?

Surely the cost of the laptop/tablet is sufficient without what I would consider a 'hidden' cost as functionality without these items drops quite considerably.

Well they wanted to make a more powerful machine (bump its specs up) without bumping up prices too much (thats why keyboard and pen are being sold separately).

I kinda understand. They would be charging 200 more with keyboard and pen and people would complaining they dont need those they rather pay 200 less just the surface pro.

So I kinda understand microsoft move.

It's a premium device, hence the pricetag. And depending on how you use it, you don't need the pen and keyboard that much. I could do without the pen at least.

Good idea if you actually need one. It's an expensive toy, but if you use it for work...

You also have people like me who are trying to convince themselves they will use it for work because they really want one. I know deep down I wont use it for work, I just love technology lol. I'll probably wait for a new release and get an older one.

Geekbench is not a reliable way of comparing ARM and x86. The Surface Pro is more powerful and far more capable than the iPad Pro.

The i5-8350U, part of Kaby Lake Refresh, is a 15W 4 cores/8 threads part that could fit in the Surface Pro today. So whenever the next refresh comes (mid-2018?), it will have a quad core processor. Likely 10 nm Cannon Lake by then.

Well... I used university as a reason for the getting iPad when I first got it. I didn't imagine I would use so it much afterwards that it more or less replaced my laptop. Especially when I got a keyboard to it.

@NVIDIATI: woooow . what exacly is mx150 gpu?

Edit: I see 1030 for laptops. Ultra thin and light tablet pc with 1030 (mx 150) and quad core 8 thread kaby lake cpu seems like a dream *-*
