Hey, I was just needing some opinions of what you guys regard as being the better choice, either immersing yourself in surround-sound audio from the front, sides, and rear via a great sound system or Surround Sound Headphones???... I'm trying to make my bedroom as atmospheric as I can possibly make it, blackout curtains, dim Lighting, dark furniture etc before I start playing games such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Silent Hill series, Resident Evil series, Everything Survival Horror etc. I just need some personal opinions, setups & your recommended choices/brands of what to purchase???... Any comments would be appreciated.

Surround sound headphones are going to be much less expensive than an entire 5.1 surround system.

I have both and I really enjoy my headphones. Since there is less "Real life" ambient sound it really helps suck you into the game.

Well personaly I would go with 5.1. Yes it is more expensive ,but I find if i wear headphones for a while my ears begin to hurt.

I will have to agree 100% with this statement. In the past I have also had issue with earphones being uncomfortable. However, if you get a nice set of circumaural headphones (the big 80's style looking ones) you'll probably not need to worry about comfort being a problem. I have a pair of these and I have played Lost Odyssey, CoD4 and Vegas 2 for MANY hours at a time and I have never had any discomfort. They sound incredible too. Especially with CoD4

I don't know if I'd call them a "flagship" pair. That implies to me that Microsoft promotes and endorses them. Which to my knowledge they do not. Regardless, they are a nice pair of wired headphones. It does take a bit of tweaking to get them perfect. It's mostly trial and error. Same goes with the mic support on Live, but after a bit of toying with, they're great.

I can't really say these are the best ever. I'm no Audiophile.

EDIT

I thought about what you asked a bit better and if you mean, "are they the flagship headphones [within that company.]" Than yes.

I first thought you meant within the entire gaming realm. :P
